That little girl was great. Same response from my daughter. She stopped, watched and then asked...why doesn't our gym have a special needs team.
ACEDAD, what does a gym need to start a special needs team??
Mainly, they need someone willing to put in the time to make it happen. It is hard work, time consuming and can be quite frustrating, initially (right, Jodi?).
If the gym has a staff member or parent with special education experience or training, it would be helpful. We've put lots of information on the usasf website (click members, then special needs), but I'm available via email or cell, if needed. My contact info is on the usasf site.
Great video clip! Hopefully more gyms will start a team!
I will not lie, it's very frustrating getting the kids but once you have them...it's great. My team is excelling at each practice and competition as all do. The girls work hard and want to be at practice.
It takes time, patience and effort but the reward is that ALL kids have a place to cheer-as it should be!
