no team should practice after 9 0r 930 we are always telling our squads to get plenty of rest eat properly etc... cheer gyms should allow for enough time to get home and in bed so they can get a good nights sleep if you are practicing until 10pm or even 9:30 in my opionion you are doing a disservice to the kids on your squads they have school and most of them are up and out of the house by 7 maybe even earlier
my opionion only but i love that my gym ends all practices by 9 no matter what team you are on
Depends on the age. For a senior squad, nothing after 9pm especially on a school night. Some of those kids need to go home, shower, and finish homework. By the time they sit down for homework, its about 10pm. Developmentally, this is unhealthy for them.
yeah at my gym the mini's practice right after school, then the youth teams practice and they're done by 7, then the senior teams and they're done by 9. i agree, after 9 is just too late, especially if some people live more than half an hour away from the gym
9:00 seems to be the magic quitting hour. how long should a team practice at one time? I know a gym that has there teams practice for 8 hours on a Saturday. Do you think this is productive? Should a team practice an entire day?
wow 8 hours in one day is definitely too much. we do that like once or twice just for choreography/camp or something. if thats the normal practice routine then thats too much .. i don't think they can really be very productive for that long
i have first hand experience with 8 hour practices. and let me tell that they are both good and bad.
the good: waking up and being surrounded by the people that keep you going, bonding with your team. if its choreography, then imagine all of the choreo that gets out of the way.
the bad: having unstructured lunch breaks, where girls would go out to FAST FOOD and come back to practice feeling lazy and tired. doing a routine over and over, and being penalized when something doesnt hit (mind you by this time it was towards the end of the day.), and worst of all, leaving practice feeling like it was a waste due to the length, and strenuousness of that practice.
the best: GOING HOME AND TAKING THAT HOT SHOWER AND SLEEPING!
You can tell I don't have kids that drive yet. I was thinking if the senior aged kids came from a distance, they could be resting in the car on the way home. But, then last night I realized it's more likely that the senior aged kids are driving themselves, so they wouldn't get any rest and actually would be getting more tired by a long drive home. So I'm changing to 9p should be the latest.
