Good Sportsmanship

What is the best example of great sportsmanship that you have witnessed at an Allstar event.  One that made you go wow!

Last year one of the teams in our division had an injury and had to rework the whole routine. We didnt need all of our time so we split the mat with them and let them fix there routine.  It ended up giving them an extra 20 minutes to make things better for them.

A couple of seasons back my daughters little team didn't win very much always came in third, fourth, well you get the picture.  We attended one of the bigger competitions and ended up sitting with the Cheerforce parents.  They were extremely friendly and we talked about our teams etc.  Well when our girls got up to perform you would have thought it was one of thier teams.  It was awesome since we were not used to getting that kind of crowd response.  Well guess what we won against some bigger teams. What a wonderful day.  One I still remember.

What I like is when your standing backstage waiting for your turn one of the other teams turns to you and says good luck.  I know it is not a big thing, but it shows class and to me the ultimate good sportsmanship.

I agree, it shows a lot of class.  This happened to us a couple years ago backstage at a Nationals competition, another team (it was Pyramids) was so nice to our girls and showed them a lot of support before they went on.  It must have helped because both teams (us and them) ended up winning first place.

GSSA Super six held in Sacramento.  It was the year that Cheerforce, Power, Motions, NCE, before they changed thier name attended.  The support shown to all the teams was awesome.  I remember the host mentioning he never seen such a great show of sportsmanship among all the teams just before announcing the awards.  It's was awesome.  Anyone else remember this?

You are right! That was an amazing day, and the best show of sportsmanship I have ever witnessed! It was Cheerforce(Sm and Lg Coed), Cheergyms.com All American, POWER( Sm and Lg), and South Bay Elite. Everyone was routing on everyone, the crowd was going insane for all 6 performances, it felt like one big family! I dont think we will EVER have the chance to experience anything like that again. People have let their egos get very big, and it is showing. One can only hope that a display like that will happen once again!

I remember that 2 years ago. My daughter cheered for POWER at the time and I remember all of our cheering section was chanting the Cheergyms.com and other cheers. It was amazing. It really showed what California was truly about! I was really dissappointed at the turnout at last years Super Six. Hopefully with the venue change more people will stay and cheer.

My daughter was doing individuals at gssa I believe
in any case she was scared to death, we never knew she had stage freight. Crying, trembling about to vomit and just really freaking out back stage none of the coaches knew how to calm her down. I don't know of it was the owner of AIRBORNE or just a coach, but she came over to her and calmed her down and told her to just have fun I believe she also prayed with her

this lady just showed my little girl soooooo much compassion.  I have always wanted to thank her for that, but never got her name.  She is a woman of class and integrity.  To this day we still talk about that and we have swore all individuals forever lol

GSSA "Super Six" two years ago is also a great memory for me. In my 8 years of being a parent of an All Star cheerleader, I have not seen anything like it. It was an awesome thing to be a part of. For me, it really broke down what I had always thought was a "rivalry" between our gym and Power. We seem to have become very supportive of each other every since.

I mentioned in a previous post that a great show of sportmanship for me was when we were at Cheersport Nationals in Atlanta. The Power cheerleaders and parents were cheering us on (from inside our cheering section, we had white bangers and they had red) and we did the same for them. It was great!!!

Hope to see it again in Vegas!!!!

I have 1 --

-- NDA in Florida last year -- There was an open team from JAPAN -- They were so nervous, when they came on. They had no family there only few other team members. 1 of our coaches (sitting with us), helped them to find center and had helped them warm up backstage. The whole time, our SCF family screamed and yelled and cheered them on. Everytime we yelled and clapped louder their faces and smiles got bigger and bigger. They were so overcome at the end, they all came up to us afterwards, crying and in tears they were so thankful for the cheers and support. It was an experience I will never forget.
(PS -- they won as well -- )

I still look back fondly on GSSA's Super Six two years ago.  Every person in the auditorium cheering on every team, even learning the gym's chant and yelling along with the gym.  It was AWESOME!

Ya but I dont think when teams cry because they feel they should have beat another team is good sportsmanship...it just shows that you think you are better than others.

That's not necessarily true.  Why is showing your emotions considered bad sportmanship?

No way is crying a form of bad sportsmanship.   When I think about the times our girls have cried it's almost always because they had a bad performance and knew they could have done better.

I have to disagree. I know of kids who have cried because they worked hard and didn't win. but then they couldn't have the sportsmanship to realize that the other team worked hard too. So yes, I've seen them cry because they lost
