RE: Competitions

to the anon complaining about the gssa judging being all about nor cal...specifically that one in sacramento.  did you even look at the judges?  did you meet them?  did you ask where they are from?  because i can guarantee that not ONE was from Northern california. Out of the whole panel I think only 2 were from california; southern california.  most were from out of state.

im sick of people who lose blaming it on politics.  another team beat you because they were better than you on that day.  move on and get better.

It's not too costly - other companies do it.  I'm flown to Florida and Texas from Northern California twice a year to judge.  I think it would be worth it for GSSA to do it in order to try to earn back their credibility.  It's popular opinion with GSSA that "He Who Writes the Biggest Check Wins."  And that's not just in Northern California, Southern California gyms complain about it too.  We've all complained about it for years and finally a lot of gyms just stopped going.

who said it was a sac competition no it was san jose and if you read my anin complaint i said we are on the other end receiving the favoritism too  and im sick of people who refuse to stand up for what is right

GSSA owner is not from california but that does not make her not an affiliate of northern california etc  we pay a lot of money to compete and its only fair that it is judged fairly period

we have moved on will not attend gssa until the reputation is kosher again
its funny we have been to ther orginizations and placed well and judged fairly ummmmmmm because they require that their judges are from out of state and some have gone as far to send judge bios and you must sign to say you have no affliation with them

if you are walking pass the judges hugging and hanging out with them after the comp something is not right

oh wait i forgot gssa doesnt do this

while i get better and move on how about you get a clue get smart and realize whats true is true

moved on
now get a clue

I would find your complaints and concerns more credible if you where not anonymous.  If you know for a fact this goes on please give more specifics.  What gym or organization are you with?  When and how did this happen to you.  Can you give specific examples so I can make a more informed opinion on if this is true or not.

I know the argument will be there are numerous judges and that's just one score card (or whatever its called), but that one card will still make a difference in the final standings.  There are no checks and balances in place to make sure this is not happening.  You see a routine and you have a choice to give a certain amount of points and it's just too easy to score on the lower or higher side without having to justify it.

Don't many of the competition companies throw out the lowest and highest judges' scores before averaging the others? . . . I would think this would help to prevent favoratism either way . . .

Just curious with all the talk about who is going to which competition, what is your opinion on the following Competition Companies.  Will anyone be attending any of these in the future?  Please add to the list any others that you can think of.

Athletic Championship - never been to one of their comps, this weekend will be the first. I hear they are great.
America's Best - They are ok
GSSA - Hate the venue they have it at in SJ

I have been with a few gyms and each ones post competition routine is different. The first was just happy each team performed well and had a good time. (usually placing low)

The second gym place not well but o.k. and rush to get their scores to find reason why they did not win. The spent more time trying to figure out why someone else won and not why they did not.

My current gym places very high for every team but is very critical of themselves even after wins. If we lose it is never the judges, the venue, the comp. host or the weather. We just did not perform well and we know it. Even if we did the other teams were probably better.

Which gym do you category do you fall in?

NCA seriously needs to have a competition out here. For now I like Americas Best, Jamfest, American Championships, and Athletic Championships. Mardi Gras is great too.

My least favorite is probably JAMZ. They are more unorganized than other competitions, they run late a lot of the time, and i remember when i went a couple of years ago, theyre awards were really weird.

My favorites are:
Athletic Championships- a lot of fun and well organized
NCA nationals in Dallas- It is a very well run competition company, but being in Dallas with all of those amazing teams makes it even better. The crowd just goes wild for everyone and it is a lot of fun. But the competition company itself is really nice, organized and i love the way they do awards there.

Hmmm, the JAMZ we went to recently was on-time, seemed well organized, and had pretty normal awards (trophies for 1st-3rd; what do you mean by weird?).  I loved the location (UOP) and parking was really easy. So far I really like JAMZ comps.  Maybe they've improved in the last couple years?

Jamz needs to lower their regional fees to get in and they need to pass out programs when you pay your fee.   We didn't attend the last one... I'm assuming it's still $15 to get in, $5 for a program?

$15 to get in (isn't that about standard for an arena venue?), program was free (just a sheet of paper like the other comps we've attended).

Yeah we paid $15 to get into the JAMZ competition and the program schedule was free.  I think they run their competitions smoothly!  They keep the kids entertained while the judges take their 5-10 minute breaks. The kids love getting those beads and other free things thrown to them.  I have never heard any of the kids complain about the competitions.  I only hear the parents complaining.   & isn't that why we're there?  For the kids?

I coach and yes kids complain about Jamz. Jamz needs to fix their scheduling. They are so RANDOM. They will have hip hop in the middle of youth level 2. Also they need to have some type of order to their events such as age/divisions. They just really need to get it together. Those new score sheets SUCK! They are all computerized with hardly any personal comments. Might go back next year, might not, but they are definetly not a company that is organized.

Actually, cheergyms.com (not CheerGyms) has attended JAMfest events prior to JAMfest's acquisition of GSSA in 2007.  If you attended the JAMfest Nationals in Long Beach, CA in 2006, you would have seen our entire program in attendance.  Our teams placed rather well in each of the divisions that were entered, along with winning the Most Entertaining Award in the Junior Divisions and Grand Champions in the Senior Divisions.  So, to assume that the only reason that we are attending JAMfest events because of their "merger" with GSSA, is not very accurate.  Don't hate the player...hate the game.

We went to JAMZ in Vegas in 2005.  Loved seeing all the teams that seemed to come from everywhere.  The teams you hear about but only get to see on You Tube.  That part was exciting.  As far as the competition.  It was extremely long and the senior level 5 teams didn't perform until really late.  We were there when the doors opened and sat thru the opening with the singers at least three times.  That got old real fast.  Seating was horrible, and I admit I lost my happy upbeat additute somewhere about 1:00 p.m. or so.  I can't say I enjoyed it all that much.  Especially when you consider the cost for the whole weekend.  My biggest complaint about JAMZ is I hate thier awards cermonies.  These kids work so hard and unless you win first place you really don't get any recognition accept to hear your name called out.  I don't want to see the JAMZ staff dancing and prancing about for a half hour or so.  I want to see the kids get there awards.  Sorry I don't mean to sound so grumpy :(
