I wouldn't call them a "new trend"...we've had them as long as I've been doing all-star and that's like 7 or 8 years now. I guess I don't pay much attention to other teams spankies because I thought everyone was wearing the boy cut kind! I didn't know they even still made them the old way.
Has anyone heard of them being referred to as "tillies"?
Yup, that's what the organization called them when my daughter started cheering. I like it best, but actually use briefs, spankies and tillies interchangeably.
Dyan.....how come no one calls them kick pants??? :) Go Dons!!!
I have no idea why? I think "kick pants" is by far the better name. I guess you me and Airbourne Owner must have cheered in the 80's. Luckily my girls and I have always had to wear black "kick pants" so finding undies to go under isnt an issue. I do like the look for the boyshort best. Maybe next year!!! PS This coach and mom always makes sure her girls are wearing underwear.
No problem...just playing around. Kick pants it is....I actually thought that is what everyone around here called them..but I think that it might just be the gym I first worked at when I moved here.
We had an issue at the gym once where the girls didn't wear their spankies, bloomers, etc under her shorts. When she would do a heel stretch or whatever, everyone got a free show to whatever undies she was wearing that day. Now the girls must wear them under their shorts as well. The male coaches said that they can't take their eyes off of the girls while they are in the air, and they don't want the parents wondering if the coaches saw what everyone else just saw.
And Tamara, you can't rat me out!!!

skivies (military term) are too long to be short shorts
80s short shorts were called hot pants
true "nickers" (english) is the term for a lads trouser that came just below the knee, and was 'bloused" below the knee and just below the top of the knee length calf sock ... they were in lieu of a full length slack. (trouser) adopted in 1800s in america, to mean ladies undergarment or pantaloons, then changed to bloomers in the 1900s,, for men breech.later called britches...knickers are still available in most european countries. 1950s and 60s 3/4 pants were called "pedal pushers", in the 1990s and 2000+ now called capris. Changing times..when they first came out in the u.s. 1950s, everyone had them for 50 cents a pair and we wore them everywhere, they were known as thongs, a most comfortable footwear, sometime in the early 90s someone had the odasity to change the name to flip flops, notice two syllables, and give the name to something i cannot wear, and when i go to buy a new pair of my favorite footwear, i have to be name and politically correct.
a footnote...both spankies and boy shorts were made to be worn over an undergarment, and not as a wear alone item.
