I was extremely upset to learn the meaning behind the lyrics of the song "Soilder Boy" or "The Superman" song which our kids dance to in school, at dances and during breaks at cheer competitions. The song is talking about ....how can I say this without being so detailed....At night two people are eating hot fudge sundaes. It starts to become a little messy. No more sundae. Time to laydown. Wait! something is sticky on someone's back. Darn!, now the sheets are stuck to that one person making them look like superman. Sorry that is the best I can do.
Hoping that you understood the digusting thing that I was trying to discribe, our kids are singing the chorus of this song and dancing to it. They love it! They have no idea what the song is talking about. Who cares though. As long as it is making the artist money. NO WAY! This is just got to stop! I encourage you to stop your kids from listening to this song and see who we can speak to to have it not played at competitions.
Tamara - I wanna know your take on this! I was actually playing the song on the way in to work trying to decifer it. It all sounds like a lot of jibberish to me.
I agree this probably isn't the right forum to post those lyrics, especially since you can view them anywhere else on the internet. There are so many songs used at competitions that probably shouldn't be if we all saw the lyrics, but the truth is most of us don't even pay attention to them (can most of us even understand them)?? I'm not saying it's okay to use them, but if they're going to be boycotted then the lyrics of ALL songs used would have to be looked at.
Doesn't seem all that bad to me, and nothing like the original post had made it out to be. Of course I haven't seen the video yet, so I could still be shocked.
I have this problem with Pink's recent song - I'll call it "I'm not here for your entertainment", because the name of the song itself is not nice to post. My kids (10 and 8) love that song, and sing along with it on the radio (catchy tune), but have no idea what it's about. I didn't even know until I looked up the name and lyrics! I've heard clips of it in many cheer performances, without the bad lines, but they played the entire thing at JAMZ. Ugghhh! Why can't they make a nice clean version for radio and other broadcasts where kids will be around?
That is exactly what the artist has intended. Ask the your teenagers or college kids what the song is talking about and they will tell you. Its the same thing as "Shake that laffy Taffy" or "I'll take you to the Candy shop and blah blah blah"
I'm a pretty young parent who is not blind to see what these lyrics are about. Hey if you don't care about what your kids listen to...then
Please let's just not make this an issue of rap music, because we all know that the majority of rap music has it's challanges but I also heard
"Love me or hate me that is the question and if you don't like me (Bleap ) you" and Teanager's scare the living (bleap) out of me"
And I do beleive these are rock or alternative music.
In my opinion every music is coruputed in some way , right along with every insane reality show , South Park and Girls gone wild commericial on channel 11 at 8pm Family night.
It is really our society that has gone to the dump people, music is just a contrubuting factor.
Its really sad though, all of those kids at Jamfest in San Francisco last weekend on the stage dancing to this song. Having fun. From the Minis to the College kids. Having no clue.
Does anyone wonder why our society has turned out to be the way it is? Teachers afraid of kids. Kids with guns in school. Girls having sex at young age. And all of the single moms out there.
I don't think its fair to blame all of those problems on music. I do feel like the song is inappropriate, but like a lot of people have already said, younger kids don't know the meaning and the older kids who do are usually (hopefully) mature enough to know its inappropriate. Its just like movies. A family can walk into, lets say, Shrek. All the adults and teens catch the references to adult concepts, while it flys over the kids heads. And of course, I have the teenage bias, so I'm not expecting everyone to agree with me, but thats my opinion.
