Moving to Irvine from Texas

I have a friend moving from Texas to Irvine area.  I know OC Allstar and California Allstars in San Marcos.  Any advice I can give my friend?  Other gyms that I am not aware of?  While I know the names California Allstars and OC Allstars, I don't really know that much about their programs.   Her child is 9 and currently on level 4 team with a full.  I think she is pretty talented and it would be great if she could end up on a level 5 team in the next year or two (or nowsmile).  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

cheerforce is almost 90 miles away from Irvine. Ca Allstars (is about 45 ~ 60 miles) away.
I don't think that is going to work.

There are several excellent gyms in the So.Cal area (within 5~ 10 miles) of Irvine.
OC All Stars (fields level 4 and 5's -- large gym)
Magic (fields multiple level 4 and 5's -- large gym)
Californa Surf (not sure this year -- medium gym)

Quakes -- only has 1 team this year
PAC (wait and see -- what they do, they are new, I love the owners, but they only have 2 teams this year)
Pacific Coast (again almost 45 miles away).
Dynasty all stars (Irvine -- not sure they even compete anymore)
Fierce (Upland) -- again almost 40 miles away.

PM me if via my id if you need more information (links etc)

CHEERFORCE---------78.2 MILES

CA. ALLSTARS-------- 92.1 MILES

I did this on yahoo maps from city center to city center.
Both gyms are the highest scoring gyms from California that competed at worlds.

Unless your cheerleader is going to be put on the sr coed team (unlikely @ 9yrs old), I couldn't justify the 92 mile drive to California Allstars. Ca's coed placed very well at Worlds, small senior didn't fare as well. There were other California (state) teams that fared better than California allstars small senior teams at Worlds. As far as junior teams, Cheerforce had California Allstars beat hands down all season in my opinion.

I thought you had to be 10 years old to compete on a senior level 5 team now, per USASF new rules.  So then you CAN'T put a 9 year old on a sr. coed team anyways. . .  (At least not until next year, if she's 10 by May 31st)

There isn't really one program in the OC area that comes across as stronger than the other. They seem to all have LOTS of drama and no consistency in coaching. Quakes used to be the deal, then went down hill. Orange Crush and Magic are there but those teams are messy, but talented. OC all stars has had drama over the past 2 years, but put together some competitive teams. CA all stars seem to be the strongest and most consistent program down there. CF is very good as well.

No way is California Allstars over 90 miles.  There are over 15 kids that live in Orange County that go to California Allstars and it is about an hours drive from Irvine. Maybe an hour and a half if you leave at the wrong time of day.  Cheerforce is in Simi Valley and you would have to drive through LA and therefore it would probably take 3 or 4 hours to get to that gym due to terrible traffic.

Sorry people unless yahoo is wrong these are the miles that came up. Maybe you could try it yourself. Maybe mapquest it or try a different search.

It takes between 45 minutes and an hour normally from the oc, it depends what time of day you leave.
I think if the child really loves cheer, and it is feasible for the family then it would be a good enviroment for her to be in, especially if she wants to be level 5 in the future.

Ok, here I am. How did I miss this???

Ok, u all know me... not out to hurt feelings. I love OC of course but I also know what it takes to make the best decision for your family and child. That is priority.

Personal choice for a season underway is OC. Just cause 1. a few girls I personally know who go to CA say that there aren't any open positions on the lvl 4 team any longer. 2. OC has a level 4 team that has an opening and they are quite good this season, actually. 3. My personal opinions aside here, you're coming from Texas, not too sure how happy you would be at Magic and especially Surf. Quakes is 1 year from being non-existant pretty much. Why bother.

Now....... all that aside....... Next year, if OC doesn't fit you or you want more (like a lvl 5 coed) and she will be 10 by then, CA isn't THAT far from Irvine. It's 40 minutes and a straight shot from you. There are TONS of girls from here who go down there. Carpooing wouldn't be tough to find.

CF is just way too far. Love love love them, but that's quite the juant. Fierce as well and you all know that I adore them as well.

So, friendships aside, OC is your best bet for THIS season. The drama is gone, trust me. My kid isn't cheering there NOW but may be in a month. But the drama is gone, thank goodness. Then next season, try CA.

That's my reccomendation. ACEDAD gave you my cell number. Call me. No matter what your decision, we can at least hang out and you'll have a friend already in Orange County!!! We can even go down to CA if you would like.
