From a youth standpoint, most of our bylaws don't address outside competition as most of them are designed to deal with the football aspect.
I have to 1000% agree...as a league cheer coordinator I am seeing more and more of our associations starting to go outside of our league rules when it comes to outside competitions. We were at Jamz yesterday and one of our organization somehow ended up with 6 girls more than they are allowed in our league because they are not following the rules. I say if you are a youth assocation and you want to be all about the outside competitions instead of supporting your football teams and competiting on the side, then become an all-star team instead...
I was just researching the question that was asked about the by-laws. It does not appear that they are in any violation by having higher fees. Here are two links from some of the Sacramento teams. Although around here it would appear 14 is the cut off for the "youth football" teams. I think it is a bit confusing since all stars also have a youth level. I hope this helps answer any of your questions.
Some of the Youth football programs have amazing cheer teams, they can definately hang with All Stars!!!
Well that is obvious since some of them spend money on outside camps/instruction throughout the year instead of the traditional youth team. My question is how can the normal pop warner/youth team compete if they are surrounded by teams that are near gyms and hire outside people. I thought they developed those divisions for teams who are true youth programs. Honestly these are just outside teams that us gyms are training in tumbling and sometimes stunting.
several of the youth teams are feeder programs to top ranked HS teams. These teams like to cheer at games and compete. If you don't want to cheer at games and/or deal with grades go all-star. The youth teams are smart to use powerhouse all-star training. If you want to be the best train with the best. I agree with the other comment, several youth teams can hang with all-star teams.

Some teams are coached by people with a lot of cheer knowledge & experience who do not need to break the rules to be great. I am not saying that some organizations don't break the rules, but I do not think it is fair to assume that all great teams have to break the rules to win either.

i will say at jamz yesterday there were some youth teams that went from nothing to "where did they get that". It is very obvious there is professional help going into the routines and that is not right I agree. It states in those youth rules that outside choreography is not allowed but who polices that. shame on them and the companies that allow it. ALl the outside all-star teams that help should know not to do that but then there is that all mighty $$$$
My daughter started out in youth and now is in All Stars. My biggest complaint was going to competitions and competing against a team that you know had help. How does a team that has to practice in a open field with limited resources compete against that. To me it took away what youth (rec) cheerleading was about.
A lot of leagues by-laws do not say you can not hire outside choreographers. I don't have a problem hiring outside help because a lot of organizations are just parent volunteers who may know nothing about creating routines, but all "Youth/Rec" associations are supposed to follow their leagues rules in addition to the competition (JAMZ, etc) rules. My problem comes in that most of the companies holding these competitions could care less that the teams are not following their league rules. I pointed out to JAMZ that one of our leagues assocations was not following our league rules plus had girls cheering on their team that were not certified by the league to cheer (i.e. we allow a certain # of girls and they had 10 more that allowed) and they could care less. It is all about them wanting the money.

Some youth teams also combine their teams and perform as an "Open" team which is legal and they can compete small or large. Their level is based on the oldest girl on the team.

I wouldnt be so quick to say Jamz dosnt care... I would say that youth league/popwarner rules are just that. They are rules for how a team should act. But when they are going to comps run by Allstar companies it seem as if those youth league/pop warner rule no longer apply or are unenforceable by Jamz staff or any other company for that matter.
problem is there is not one rule for all. Some leagues make you follow league rules until you enter the competition circle then you must abide by the safety rules of the division you are competing at. Youth teams can combine for usa or jamz. Usa considers it open and JAMZ is mainly by age so you can combine easier than USA. They can also compete as an all-star team if they feel they are at that level. SOme teams have facilities, mats and the knowledge to get to that level. Main rule is you can't combine your teams until after your regular football season is completed. THat is usually across the board unless other arrangements have been made by there own league. Most dangerous situation is to assume, just ask that league how they work.
I wonder why Jamz hasn't posted a schedule yet???? The pattern is typically that they post it the weekend before the competition, usually on a Friday. From what I've been reading it looks like the turnout will be decent but not so overwhelming it would take time to put the schedule together. If someone discovers it in the next few days let us know. Oh and don't forget to print it out before you leave on Sunday, otherwise you won't get one unless you pay $5 for the program. They really need to change that. $15 should include a program.
