Just a question... It's seems that the size of some of the gyms is getting smaller. I thought Cheer Diva's and Motions had more teams and Cheer Xplosion seems to have gotten smaller also. Is it because new gyms are opening up and there is more competition in the area.

It depends, alot of kids graduate, kids move, and some leave to do High School. There are also new gyms and just so many kids to go around.
It happens to everyone at some point or another. People always think that if you don't expand season after season, that you are failing as a gym. I think that's absolutely UNTRUE. Quality, not Quantity. We don't make our gym the biggest it could be just based on the fact that we want good teams, not numbers.

I agree with you except we all know that it's the numbers that pay the bills and keep the gyms in business. I just think that any gym can lose kids and have to go thru a rebuilding faze. It's also a fact with more gyms opening there is more competition to get the kids in some areas.
Yeah but that all comes with how much you pay for your building. If you want a 14,00 square foot building you better have big number in that gym. If you have something small, you don't need big numbers. You see?

If a gym has a good reputation and the kids are happy they will keep coming. Also it has to do alot with the economy. This last year has been a little rougher and cheer is expensive. That sometime has alot to do with it also.

I think alot of gyms realize this and have tried to make it more affordable this year.
This is a hard one. Many things make up a great gym. Since we are at a large gym I would have to vote for Cheer Odyssey for the small gym. They seem to be doing something right over there. They have a good reputation and the coaches seem to be friendly.
I agree about Cheer Odyssey. And according to cheer xplosion's website they have five teams, I wouldn't consider that a small turnout. Kudos to gyms who continue to attract members year after year.
I don't know how Victorious Elite did last year, but their first year was impressive because it seemed like they came out of nowhere and really made a presence at some competitions. They are hot pink and black I think? A popular combination I never get tired of.
I think alot more kids would do all stars if it didn't cost so much. We get soo many kids who want to do it, but their parents freak out at the cost. I also know that kids and parents want to be happy, as far as their kids being happy, so its important to keep them happy, as well as coaches happy. If coaches leave, kids leave, or if kids do not enjoy the season, then they leave. That being said, that is what kids keep coming back for.

The last sentence is so untrue. Many gyms just don't advertise enough. Yo know how many places I go to and people say I have never heard of a cheer gym or all stars. Its cause gyms can't afford to really market themselves, but if they did, more kids would do it. Look at Youth Soccer, tons of kids. yes it is cheaper but there are tons of kids who do nothing , and those kids would love to cheer.
My bad, my bad! I missed this thread somehow. We have two teams this year. Our numbers are actually pretty much the same as they were last year, they are just shuffled around a little differently, and I know I'm enjoying slightly less stress this season due to that! We've long said we have no desire to have a huge program with 5, 6, 7, 8 teams...we enjoy just having two or three and being able to really focus our attention on them all the time.
Small Youth 2 Large Senior Coed Limited 4 (not 3, for whoever said that)
I am REALLY excited to get this season rolling!

cheer divas, anyone? how many teams? MELISSSSAAA!!!
Someone mentioned quality vs. quantity and I think that's true, how large your gym is doesn't necessarily equate to success over smaller gyms. Some large gyms have many new members while smaller gyms tend to have veteran cheerleaders who have been with the gym for years.
