I must admit that I agree that there had always been rivalry between Motions and South Bay / Nor Cal. Not just the two years that both gyms had Large Coed teams but also back in 2004, when Motions "Large" Seniors (there were only twenty one girls on the team until their final competition) and South Bay Elite's Large Senior team has always gone head to head. I know, from being a part of both programs, that the athletes wanted to beat each other at competitions.
I can also agree that a lot of big rivalries come from gym owners and coaches as well. Here in Miami, Miami Elite and Top Gun constantly competed against each other. And this rivalry goes back to back when a few of my coaches cheered when they were younger.
But I like healthy rivalry. I even remember a little "sibling rivalry" within the chergyms.com family, between Pyramids and Motions Large Coed. But, rivalry is always good for competition!

Oh yeah, I know what you mean about rivalries being good for competition. Sometimes even if we didn't place well at a competition we would be thrilled if we beat our rival. It really made us try our best. If we didn't think they were good it wouldn't mean as much, so it's a compliment. You know sometimes you go to these competitions and you're only going against one or two teams. When one of the teams is a rival of yours it gives you that added incentive to win, you know?
It's a shame when the owners, coaches and kids take this rival thing to far. In the Inland Empire we had a gym close it's doors, mind you that there was only two gyms in this area. Instead of the other gym reaching out to the one that had closed, they thought that they would capitalize on the business, and it back fired. there was so much bad blood between these two, that most of the cheerleaders that left the closed gym refused to go to the other gym. If things were better these two gyms could have merge, creating many opportunities for the boys and girl's of the inland empire. Instead these talented cheerleaders have to go outside the community to cheer. It's just not right!
The dance world has its share of rivalry. Mostly becasue because for awhile there are so few teams in CA. You' had PACE, SCF, OC and Xtreme. Now we are adding Chino Valley and ATD. I think its fun. But to me the most important thing I like is when you have friends on the other teams and still go out there and cheer them on to do their best.
Friendly rivalries between gyms is fine. As long as it stays of the mat where it belongs. I have a problem with bad mouthing and some of the trash talk you hear from some gyms. I just don't understand the need for it. But I guess some people thrive on drama!

i know exactly what two gyms you are talking about and i think it is really sad. i dont really get why there was so much beef between the two gyms and it really isnt my business but i remember reading their guestbooks one summer and they were certainly saying nasty things to each other. I not only blame the coaches for this hapening but the parents at the gym that closed down. if their kids really wanted to cheer they should be welcomed with open arms into the open gym but i think the parents dont want to look like idiots for the way they acted when their kid was at the other gym. i think it is a sad situation.
The morals at the gym that is still opened are down right nasty. The gym that closed it's doors taught the girl's morals and self respect. I would never trade that lesson for the world.

the gym that is still open is one of the nicest gyms that i have actually EVER come across at competitions. From the girls to the parents to the coaches. What there coaches teach them is obviously not what you were taught and your morals may be different from theres and there is no problem with that in my opinion however it takes at least 1 person from each gym to start beef between each other. I would also say that the girls at the gym that is still open have self respect for themselves as well as their coaches and act as a family at competition. I think at most gyms you go to teach the kids morals and self respect but they are all taught in differnt ways as well as recepted in different ways. What you think is right someone else may not think is. I know the situation got nasty and it is completely unfortunate however, the gym that is still open must be teaching their kids something right because they are still open and have tripled in size in three years. I also think a lot of nastiness occurs when kids start gym hopping and i know many girls switched to the gym that is still open. There success shows on the floor and people around the country have great respect for their program.
Are we talking about the same gym???? I know for a fact that their enrollment was down this year, and alot of their kids are cross competing to make up the difference. Some are on three teams, how crazy is that!!!!!!!
These two gyms are located in the Inland Empire in Rancho Cucamonga, matter of fact you can go to the gym that is still open and read about the drama as it unfolds. These coaches should be ashamed of themselves for the stuff they are writting, and if you look closely you can see how they have fueled thier chearleaders and parents to do the same. It's a hot pick mess!
I think it would be best to keep specifics out and keep this topic general. It's interesting to see what causes rivalries between gyms, but when you start naming or describing gyms then the mudslinging begins ... no need for that, right?
WRONG!!! (in my opinion anyway) This gym loves to dish it but can never take it back. We all know this topic was started for that reason . It's time for a little mudslinging. Let's get ready to rumble........ I think it's competition time!
But seriously I also think the cheer season goes by so quickly, it is our resposibility to out the gyms that do this kinda stuff and spare a good cheerleader and thier family this type of enviornment.
i would assume that you are from the gym that closed down, and may be the same persone or one of a few who have been on these boards,, but if you ladies are going to come on here and talk about how their gym doesnt teach them morals or self respect you are mistaken. They arent the ones on here talking s*** about anybody. As far as having cross overs, what gym doesnt have them? I certainly dont know of one gym who doesnt have cross overs. I also know for a fact that they had sheets sent home asking if they would mind cross competing. Some kids and parents obviously did not care very much and how do you know that they dont love the sport enough to compete 3 times in one day? kids have fun doing it so why not let them.
But you can go to thier guestbook and see what type of role models they really are huh? I say again don't dish it if your going to duck and dive when it's time to take it. Don't give us anything to talk about !! At least were talking about you now cuz when it's time to hit the competition floor, you won't even be a thought in our heads. Enjoy this regin this may be the only glory you get all year!!
Not being from that area I have a different outlook. Although the coaches do not talk trash about other programs. They incite the drama to just continue. Sometimes it is just easier to turn the cheek and ignore the drama. Do not post the comments on the guestbook and do not comment on the negative ones. Eventually they will go away. The season will start soon and it will give us some real food for thought

Whats a role model to one may not be a role model to another. It will show who is better on the competition floor just like it did last season. They work their butts off to get where they are and are proud of what they have become. they could care less about people like you who are just bashing their program and it is motivation for them to bring it harder to the mats than they would. What i will say , i completely respect them and am not a part of their program. If i lived closer i would have picked them over the gym that closed. Unfortunately i dont live near them and dont cheer for them but our program did compete against them last season and it was nothing but fun. People are bitter about the close of their gym. What brought the closed gym down made the open gym stronger.
