I agree also. I never understood why people get so upset. I don't think anyone is rude on purpose. Sometimes you get caught up in the moment out of excitement. Hey I've seen everyone do it.
Oh goodness, I've done it MORE than a few times!!!! I will be honest! I don't mean ill will towards ANYONE and ESPECIALLY kids! But it's just thrilling to win and your first instinct is to jump and yell. I think it would just solve this if they didn't announce 2nd.
Trust me, I've sat my big butt back down in embarassment after I did it. I truly didn't mean to.... and then I'm wiggling all over in my seat till they announce first. Damn that's tough!!!!

Ok I admit I'm guilty also. Sometime ya just can't contain yourself lol
Compeition companies that take forever posting a schedule. I know they think the week of or even 2 weeks is organized, its not really if you think about it. Especially if you pay money by the due date. Lets get some organization and put a schedule out for at least coaches to get.
I think a solution would be to not announce the last place team. Then when 2nd place is called, there are still two teams left: which one got first? You don't know until it is announced. I have seen this at many events and really liked it. I also like when there are 7 or more teams (for example) and they only announce the top 4. I always felt so bad for the kids who had to accept an award for coming in last place...

I really like this idea! This way the second place team would still be able to get all the cheers, whooping, yelling, and the opportunity to go up and get the award due them.

I've always thought that announcing all the teams placements was too much. Maybe just do half, this would also eliminate the "I will wait for the team to be announced, I will wait for the team to be announced, I will wait for the team to be announced...ohmigosh they didn't get second, they won! they won! they won! oh shoot I will wait until the team is announced, yea they won."
It's ridiculous and sometimes humiliating to announce every placement, I agree completely. And in 10th place.... Why go there? I think when it gets down to the top two you have both sets of teams stand up, like someone else suggested (the way the Miss America contest is done, etc...). Getting 2nd is often quite an accomplishment and should be acknowledged. Everyone sees the top two, and then you announce the winner.
Many times there are teams out there that know they will never place first or second. What harm is there announcing that they placed 10th. Just as in the Chicago Marathon I would love to be able to say I finished dead last. What an accomplishment just to finish. This is for the kids after all, They are out there performing in front of hundreds of people, I would say that is an accomplishment in itself and deserves to be recognized!
I agree with Cheer Mamma on this one. We have always been with smaller gyms and know what coming in 8th, 9th and 10th is like. We have been at competitions where the only announced the top 4 or 5 and it was like.... Hey we were here to. Some competition companies will award the girls a small trophy of plague and it's just as important to them to get the recognition for trying thier best. Not everyone is always on a first place team.
I like the idea mentioned, but I don't see the competition companies changing anything soon. It really doesn't bother me that much. Just figure everyone is over excited about thier teams winning.
I have to completely disagree about coming in 8th, 9th, 10th. We've been there and we would rather have the top five announced, and then lump all the rest of us in the bottom half together, no last place. It will give you incentive to make the top five next time.
It really bothers me when programs let there little cheerleaders run all over the arena and in everyones way. Parents please watch your kids while you are at comps. It is really distracting when a team is on the flloor and young cheerleaders are fooling around by the stage. Annoying!!!!
