* The people who save the first fifteen rows of seats with only three people guarding them the whole eight hours.
*The people who think "no saving seats" refer (refers? MS Word actually accepted both, even I know that can't be right.) to the family member that went to the restroom or food line.
My biggest pet peeve is when your gym is performing and the comps allow you to go up front to watch your gym perform, and you have other gyms up there (right in front) because their team is up next.....this has happened and I was a bit upset as I could not see my child who is now performing because these other adults felt the need to stay there so they would be able to have front row to see their child. THese are grown parents mind you that WILL NOT move. The rule is you run up there right when your gym is on stage and as soon as they are finished, you get out of there for the next team...oh no, there has been many times that other gyms go up two performances before to save the front seats! SO rude!
We actually watched it unfold at a comp and I will say it was a big name gym that had some people steal their seats. We saw the security walk over to them becuse of the confrontation. This particular team has the vast majority of the cheerleaders go down and cheer their teams on. From what I heard third party was that the people who sat in their girls seats (after they were told the girls were down there cheering there team on) did not care and sat in their girls seats anyways. Come on now, your girls can't go down and cheer on their team in fear of losing their seats? Some people just need to chill out and ask nicely if they are taken or not.
Also the food lines and lack of food or quality of food at comps are ridiculous. You could actually spend 20-30 minutes in line to spend $20.00 and get cold nachos, a small coke and a hot dog with stale bread. So should you loses your seat? NO NO NO
What do we want, "Better Venues with Quality food thats Inexpensive and Shorter Lines" When do we want it "NOW!"
In no particular order: 1. No specific section for cheerleaders - I hate when prime seats are "saved" with cheer backpacks and 3-4 parents!
2. When no videotaping is allowed.
3. High admission prices coupled with high food prices. Grandma doesn't want to pay $15 to watch her little pumpkin for 2-1/2 minutes.
4. LOUD music during downtime. Turn it up for performances, but don't make me yell in between too!
5. Spectators who stand up and walk around in front of me during performances. Why can't you wait 2-1/2 minutes? This especially bothers me when it is a cheerleader. Kids from my gym be warned: I will bite!
6. AIRHORNS!
7. Teams that celebrate 1st place before announced.
I agree on everything, especially the food!! I am on a weight loss mission and am dreading comps as I will have to eat before I go, try to bring a snack or two and then wait to eat until I leave. I don't know why they can't have at least a couple of healthy options especially at a cheer comp where a lot of the athletes are trying to eat healthy too! I do know that a lot of the time the comp company has no control over the venues food. Most venues provide the food themselves and I don't think they really care what we like.

8. Poor lighting that creates poor pictures.
Uhoh! Apparently, I'm the smart one in our family. The poster asked what is your biggest pet peeve, not peeves. Poor, poor Pixie. Lucky for you, I still love ya! ;)
Tamara, you little so and so! Well, in my defense, the topic is the plural form!
Right now my biggest competition pet peeve is not having my know-it-all, smart mouthed little sis sitting next to me watching all the fun!!!
What a lousy defense...when you have multiple people listing their pet peeve (no s), you get pet peeves.
I'll leave you alone now.
Hopefully that won't be your pet peeve on 11/03. I wanna go to JamFest and watch the mini level 1s to the senior level 5s while sitting next to the only other person I've found that loves to do that too. Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait!
I so agree with both of these. Most stuff I can handle (pack a lunch, yell to be heard over loud music, stand rather than sit, etc)...but the things that affect the kids to me are the worst. There is no excuse for cutting corners in the warm-up room (especially for safety's sake, eeesh!) and they deserve to have their teammates up front cheering them on after all the work they do!

As a coach these are my pet peeves
-Poor Warm ups (1 tumbling strip, staff unorganization, non spring floor for full out run through)
-Not allowing cheerleaders to sit in front of the performance floor. The teams need the support in order to perform 100% in my opinion.
Wathcing the POM routine - one word - BRUTAL! Also, watching some of the bad hip hop is hard as well - I signed my daughter up for cheer not hip hop - I don't like it when they mix the categories.
Ok, I'm going to go against some of my dear dear friends on here. I know they will forgive me cause they know that I mean nooooooo ill will...
Ok, the "cheering before your team is announced 1st place" thing. This kills me. We JUST FOUND OUT WE WON OVER POWER (dreaming I know, but just an example) and I'm supposed to sit quiet? No.... that's like asking me to hold my breath for a minute longer when I need one NOW.
BUT I DO HAVE A SOLUTION TO THIS....
Why can't the competitions take the MISS AMERICA road on this one? Call out places but NOT second. You have two teams who are waiting to hear their name. Why not just call out first place at this point? Then you can yell, scream, cheer all you want!
Yea, it sucks to get 2nd when your heart is set higher, but that's what we're all here for anyway, right? It's competition. And when I know that my gazillion dollars I've paid has paid off, I want to cheer!!!
(I do hold my tongue, I don't cheer when I find out, but that just kills the moment just a touch you have to admit.)
Ok, so blast me all of u who want to. I can take it.

I agree with you OC Mom. I've even been guilty of it once or twice. My daughter was on a small junior level 2 team. They worked so hard all year and always came in 2nd or 3rd. When they finally won first place against some really good teams I couldn't help myself I let a a huge scream that I'm sure was heard thoughout the entire place. There was no intent on disrepecting the 2nd place team just pure joy I couldn't contain. I don't get upset when this happens and I think most parents just get caught up in the excitement for thier kids.
