How do you handle this one

Well, in the time we have been at our gym EVERY year one of our UNMARRIED caoches gets pregnant, has a baby, and disappears. One of coaches is actually getting married to her boyfriend - but the other two - one who was 19 - both quit. The girls are pretty smart though and seem to know what is going on. Also, the girl who just quit coaches every team and is heavily involved in our tumbling program. I am not a prude, I get that there are plenty of folks out there who get pregnant without being married, I am just asking how you would handle explaining this to your young, so impressionable daughters.

I really hope this topic is removed!

The coaches have their own lifes to live outside the gym.  Perhaps, some of these pegnancies were PLANNED or were by ACCIDENT.  Sounds to me like either situation, the coaches took on the responsiblity of motherhood or will be taking on the responsiblity and the life time commitment of raising a child (good for them.)   In addition, from your note you are saying the coaches do not coach while their pregnant.  Wow!  I really think these coaches are really looking out for the best interest of your daughter.  They are giving up an income to, in a sense, hide their pregnancies from your daughter.

You can certainly twist any situation they way you want to however, you can teach your daughter a lesson in responsiblity and accountability in all of this.

YES! I hope this topic will be deleted. Why would a parent start airing personal business like this. There is absolutely no reason at all.

No one is perfect! And people make life decisions without having to consult with everyone on the street. Leave them alone. I am sure they are wonderful people with the kindest of hearts.

They have to be, they coach CHEERLEADING!

Have a GREAT day!

I will leave this up for the time being. Many people make mistakes in their lives and we are not one to judge. As long as you keep team names out of this I am okay with this. I see this as one parent asking for advice on how to explain this to an impresionable child. Lets get some good feedback on this and focus on the positive and not the negative.

IMO It is the parents job to raise and be the example for their children. There are many people out there that can leave an impression on our children. Its OUR job as parents to sit them aside and explain what our expectations are for them. If a Gym owner gets a divorce will you pull your child out of a gym just because you are against divorce? We are all human and we ALL fall short of the glory of GOD. If he intended us all to be perfect how boring life would be.

This is a great teaching tool for our kids. Explain to them what the consequences are of their actions. How have your children reacted to all of the Brittney drama? Dont judge a person for bringing a life into this world. Commend them for taking responsibility for their actions. For all you know it might have been planned. Children are a precious gift. There I am stepping off my soapbox

OK, I wasnt going to respond but since this is directed at me personally then why not (I am not a cheer coach anymore).

I can't believe you would think that just because I am pregnant that I would quit my job and go into hiding. Those parents need to turn it on themselves and realize that I didn't stay because of THEM (the parents). This was just typical cheer parents complaints (why is my daughter there? my daughter said you called me this? yada yada yada!!). And we all know this is just part of the business. But at this point in my life I have to look out for myself, my baby, and my sanity. Yes, I am unmarried and yes this wasn't planned. But dang!!

I am 24, not 19. Graduated from a university, have a degree, and will be eventually marrying my 29 year old boyfriend. We just bought a beautiful house and he has a fantastic career ... which gives me the opportunity not to work.

So explain that to your daughter.
