OC Mom -- I know -- she is almost 11 going on 16 --
Our theme this year is TIGERS (if you watched Dancing with the Stars, the costume that Apollo's girl wore with the Tiger theme) -- thats what the boss lady is going with... should be interesting. And she is looking for a "fierce" type makeup. There is a ad in People that has a women with a tiger (it has big yellow eye showdow) -- Its interesting to hear about the concept and then see it as a final product. I was leary about our Indian costume last but, now I love how we changed things here and there and it turned out to be awesome.
Regarding the make up, my daughter is terribly allergic to the glitter or the glue. Her eyes puff up and become itchy every time she has to wear it. Not fun!! I prefer "subtle" make up without all that glitter....... I don't know about anyone else, but I can't see the make up on the girls when they are on the floor. So why bother with all that make up?
It makes a difference really. I was at the Oceans 13 Premiere last night and George and Matt had on eyeliner and rouge. It looked freaky in person, but on the television this morning it looked quite nice (sigh).
uuugghhh, I'm so jealous!! What about Mr. Jolie, did you get to see him looking freaky too? Notice I'm living vicariously through Lucky Lou so that I get to call Brad Pitt by his first name too. ;)

My first year cheering, we had to wear tatoos on our face to all the competitions. I was scared of my coach (she was really strict to me), so I didn't complain, and always got a rash on my face. It was really embarrasing, I never said anything.
We're not all that fond of the makeup our gym makes the girls wear, but really, sometimes you don't have a choice. I know others have said you do, but I don't know anyone who left a gym because of makeup. We wouldn't join a gym because of it, and we wouldn't leave because of it. So many other reasons to stay or leave that are far more important. We just suck it up and figure they know what's best (and hope they're right)! I agree with the post that said if a team is good (talent and skill-wise) nobody notices their makeup, or lack of. In a sport that is moving in the direction of athleticism over performance, you would think less makeup is the way to go.
Last year our Youth had a "Wicked" theme. On the second day of two day comps, they would rat their hair. It looked really cool on stage, but as you could imagine, it was SO much fun for the girls...
I personally liked the way it looked on stage, it really drew your attention.
haha. i love that picture of karlie sabrina, is she crying?? im gonna miss that routine.those girls didnt even have to get into character, hey were already WAY crazy!!

Our Junior Silver girls had the same style hair this year....we would get the craziest looks but great comments on the score sheet. Sometimes being different is just what you need to stand out in a good way. Sometimes I think that we need to take more chances in life. Live and learn.
Its funny that you posted those pictures. I remember I saw a team do that last year, then it caught on like wildfire i think it was stars?? I really liked it too so it's cool that your teams copied
i think its more distracting then anything, to see the little ones out there on stage in uniforms that would even be questionable for a senior to wear. you pay more attention to their midriffs then the actual performance, and i dont think any coach wants that. ((i cheered for 720 their first year and we had mandated black leotards that everygirl had to wear. this was to prevent any stomach from showing, during motions, tumblings, stunting..anything. the issue wasnt necessarilly a peek of stomach showing, but more about clean lines (besides the sleeves our skirts and shells were all black) and i think everyone appreciated it!)) i just think little girls should look like little girls, especially in the world we live in today, where kids are growing up wayyy to fast as it is! make-up is a tough issue though, because sometimes its fun to wear crazy eyeshadow, that in everyday life you would never think twice about putting on. but again, i think that should be left for the older girls! but in then end it is the coaches decision, and you just have to hope and have faith in them that they will make the best choice based on the gym as a whole! much love and success to all this season!
