I was just wondering what you all thought about some of these teams with crazy make up and vegas style Unis? It seems that the very best in the world don't bother with any of it. (Top Gun, Cheer Athletics, Stingrays etc.)

Wow the on the left is a little over kill but at least they kept the color scheme the same other then that I guess it didnt matter to the world champs I dont really know if it helps or not?!
my opinion...make up is a pain in the butt. same with hair. why cant we just throw our hair up in a pony tail? it has to be like...perfectly hairsprayed and combed.
Okay, I gotta admit that I'm torn on this one... Makeup: The over-the-top makeup, while frightening when seen in the lobby can make an impression on the floor. Heavy lipstick and eyeshadow make facials so much more noticeable. I just really hate seeing it off the floor, especially on the little tykes.
Vegas style unis: I really like cheerleaders to look like cheerleaders! You can add style and modernize the traditional look without getting gaudy. But I did like the "Elvis" style I saw in Anaheim with the black velvet and orange/red flames, I am embarrassed to admit... I forget the name of the team.
Yea, we were guilty with the makeup last year. But I loved the star. We only did it for Atlanta but it was fun.I believe the black and orange team was Coast.

Ok, that is just scary!!!! I would have to question the person that picked that out and made those girls wear that!
I have to agree with Pixie that some of the more dramatic eye makeup and lipstick can show well on the floor, but is kind of scary to look at up close. I don't like the extra stuff on the cheeks and such though. I don't think it is necessary and I am sure you don't get any extra points for any of it so why do anything more than eyes and lips? I think the glittery "over dramatic" look is done a lot to bring your eyes to the girls faces more, just like they do on any stage performance as the lighting and being a ways away from the audience will wash out a lot of girls. If it is done tastefully like a lot of teams I have seen in the past (AP, Airborne, Power, etc.) and doesn't distract from the performance when they are on the floor, then go for it if you like it!

I second that Danny. More and more teams are becoming way to crazy with the make up. The judges are not judging on your make up, they are judging on your skills. This made me giggle.
Maybe it's just me but I always get uncomfortable when people post pictures of teams and individuals when they're trying to make a point... I think to myself how I would feel if my daughter's picture was unknowingly posted on some message board as an example of poor makeup (or bad uniforms, or whatever). It's not like she would have a choice? Just expressing my thoughts on this, no offense intended.
Yea, I guess I probably would think, "hmmmm." but if our uniforms are bad, trust me, we already know it. And the pic of the makeup is my best friends daughter. I have a gazillion of them AND we all had the discussion at the beginning of the season about the amount of makeup. Trust me, like I said before, we know it. It's not a shocker.
And you always have a choice. If you don't want to wear the makeup or uniform, don't join. As for the photos, they belong to me. And no offense taken. Seriously.

This past year I have to admit I saw some really interesting uniforms. Some that I like some that I didn't. When I first saw the shorts I thought they were cute. That was until I saw them in person. Not every girl is built the same and they are cute on the smaller girls, but not everyone can or should be wearing them. Uniforms should flatter all the girls. I also think uniforms should look like cheerleading uniforms. I'm not a fan of the fake leather or vinyl I've seen. As far as makeup our gym did the glitter and red lipstick, but it was done on the lighter side. It's not my favorite thing but I admit it looked good when they performed. I just hate how by the end of the day there is glitter everywhere (even on me!) and it's a bugger to wash off. I don't like it when it looks like the kid was dipped in it. As far as hair I vote for the high straight pony. I hate the drama involved with curling the hair the night before, especially when your traveling. Any mom who has had to curl thier daughters hair knows what I'm talking about. I really liked the new uniforms that NCE had this year.
I second the high pony. Even with dance -- our coach wanted french braids. 2 parents (including me) are hair challenged in that area. We whined loud enough that we just had to do buns. To me in dance I think a bun is much cleaner. SCF is very light on makeup with the younger kids. Although we did do some face painting this year ("war paint) for our Indians. All in fun.
I remember the days of curling -- I love curls though -- I think it is so cute on kids. It really keeps them their age. Besides, after 3 years, I have hair curling down to 20 minutes.
As far as uniforms/costumes go -- I stand my ground, that crop tops should not be worn on anything less than a senior team. HOWEVER If you are going to wear a crop top and you have a tummy -- wear a body tight. There is nothing more distracting then seeing "giggle". Even in little kids. We have seen girls with and without body tights and a body tight does wonders! Mind you I am not a skinny minny either -- I am fluffy to the max! Every girl on SCF is required to wear a body tight under their costumes, no if ands or buts about it (even if your costume is a 1 piece with legs).
PS -- how do you attach an image if you don't have a url to house you image at?
We had a young lady who couldn't wear a crop top for religious reasons. You could NOT tell she had it when they were competing at all! Oh, and I use Photobucket.com for my photos, Lady W. It's easy. And free.... I made them large so you could see the body suits well.

in the beginning of the season club cheer twisters had crop tops and then all the teams wore what looked like a black tank top or something under it so it was no longer a crop top. i dunno if it was a tank top or a body tight but ive seen individual girls who are uncomfortable wearing crop tops wear black or white ones under their tops too. the ones that match your skin color are definitely less noticeable though.
I like the crops better myself. But NOT if you have someone that can't wear it. Then the ENTIRE team needs to wear a full top. Period. It's a team sport. But crops are my favorite. They are very flattering and cute.
