NEW RULE ABOUT SPRING FLOORS?

DID ANYONE HEAR THE RULE THAT THERE WILL BE NO SPRING FLOORS FOR ANY HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION? Please tell me that someone is playing a joke....

Kris,

Where did you hear this rumor.  I think it really depends on the company.  Large competitions that have high school and allstars are not going to take the time to change the floors out.  That seems kinda silly.  But if your daughters team primarily competes with USA...then get ready for no spring floors for high schools.  They have never used them.  Goodluck!

Actually I heard this at 2 competition companies this past year that weren't USA. I know Varsity brand companies are going to push for this especially. It has always been part of the rules, but companies chose to ignore it because of the extra work involved. Your not supposed to use any spring apparatus/spring type surface for high school teams. The routines for high school are supposed to resemble what you would see at a high school game, assembly, or rally. The average American high school has no access to spring floors, not to mention even foam floors, so it is not a realistic expectation to compete on it (Spring floor that is). I know the AACCA rules are enforcing all schools to perform stunts/tumbling on mats at basketball games. It is all for safety, and I completely agree. All stars started to get spring floor because many all star kids compete all star from youth/mini all the way up to seniors and that is numerous pressure on the bones/muscles. Most of the high school cheerleaders I coach, usually star cheering their freshman/sophomore year. Now there are those girls that do youth/pop warner/ or all star teams, then go to high school, but that number is small in comparison to how many start while in high school.aww

Yes the rule is out there and the only company that I've seen enforce the rule is USA.

However, my daughter did compete at Marine World (Jamz was hosting) and the entire competition was on just mats.  The Allstars, pop warner, and high school teams competed without the spring floor.  Oh, and we only had 7 mats, instead of 9 mats. (I think that is also suppose to be a rule.)  The Allstars cheerleaders were really nervous to throw their elite tumbling passes.  The good thing is that the coaches downgraded all the tumbling skills, we didn't see anymore then bhs and tucks the entire day (even at level 5).

I have always known about USA not using them except for All Star Cheer leading. I cant believe they are that unconsious about the injuries risk. That puts them even more danger of law suits. I remember several competitions in the past before there were spring boards with my daughters all star team and you would see severe injuries during the routines. One time down at UC Irvine during a Nca comp this girl was doing a pass and right in the middle of the pass she suffered a compound fracture her leg breaking in two and the bone sticking out as the whole team was horrified this is not a good thing not a good thing at all OC mom please tell Em to be careful.

I will. But now I'm worried. I can't imagine her doing a double or standing tucks on a mat.
