Hey, if you want to reduce the number of teams going to Worlds just have it outside the US. I think those "At-Large" bid winners may second guess attending if they have to pay out of their pockets for a trip to Tokyo or Paris. I'm all for that!

I don't know if it would the number of teams, but it could change the origin of those teams. Meaning more of the at-large bid winners from other countries may be able to attend if they don't have to fly over "the pond".
I totally agree with this idea. The San Diego Convention Center is a great place to have Worlds too! It is big and lots of hotels around the area. I think this is a great place to have it at least every other year so west coast teams can have more support during the competition. I did not go to Worlds this year because of airline prices and hotel prices. It is was closer I would definitely go to support the Nor Cal and So Cal teams!
I think the Guru is right it will effect the amount of at large bids yes I think some international teams may take advantage of it but not to the extent of what it is here.
WOW guru, thats crazy! 500 POSTS!!I remember when I used to be following closely in 3rd ranking for posts, Tamara you crazy poster you got me beat! Lol. We all need lives, but boy I am anxious for next season to start! It couldn't come fast enough.
Worlds Watcher, I was thinking about that too... if Worlds were out of the country you would cut down on the amount of at-large bids here in the U.S. that attended. Would it cut down on the fully paid bids handed out too since competition companies would have to shell out more to cover expenses?
I'm thinking if it were in California... oh boy... if we think too many bids are handed out here in CA as it is, just wait! And all the at-large's would attend of course, it's right in their neighborhood.
I'm all for moving the location from year-to-year... like the Olympics. Makes perfect sense, right?
1. Moving out of the country would cut out a lot of At Large bid winners, AND it would also cut out quite a few Partial Paid and a few Full Paid bid winners as well. Remember, Partials are only worth $5k - $10k and Full Paid are not Full paid at all rather they are up to $25k. Motions, who has won a full paid two straight years has had to pay to go each time because $25k just doesn't cover 35 kids, 2 - 3 coaches all flying to Florida and staying there for 3 nights. The total cost usually comes up to about $37k - $40k
2. The bid thing is pretty crazy, and until it gets figured out I can almost guarantee we'll see more Partials and At Larges and fewer Paids. I'm all for more bids, I really am, but moving it out of the country drastically cuts down enrollment for World's. Yes, I believe international teams are getting better and stronger but in the end, World's and competitive cheerleading is still a US dominated activity and until the field gets evened out I don't see any reason to move it outside of the country.

Oh Nelson, I know you're really more worried about what you would eat in a foreign country!
The idea of making Worlds a true World competition is nothing new. Every sport goes through it; it's happening in other sports as we speak.
I agree with the point that it would definitely reduce the amount of bids because bids would have to be worth more money. But I don't know that I see this as a bad thing. Growth in a sport is a good thing, it means someone, or some group of people, is doing something right. But, at some point, to continue the proper growth of the sport, the number of bids handed out will come to a halt. Maybe not very soon, but eventually.
Think long term...if the IOC ever seriously looks into Cheerleading as one of thier potential sports Worlds will likely be the prime example of what the competition would look like. It needs to remain under control and show international growth-hence, moving the sport out of the U.S. to encourage more international participation.
Oh my an Olympic event would'nt that be something thats when you know your sport has gone full swing. May be someday Sigh!! Until then I'll take Worlds as they are and live with it Lol!!!
