I haven't been here for a pretty good reason. I was in a serious car accident on Sunday morning, on my way to pick Em up at a friends house. A SUV hit me head on, more to the passenger side than driver, but I survived.
My seatbelt had locked on me, on my neck and I had unbuckled myself to adjust it. That's when i was hit. I flew across my van and my head went thru the windshield. I didn't remember anything that happened right after and awoke to find people in my car. I have to admit, I wasn't scared a bit but I did start crying when I saw the first police officers arrive. They didn't know who I was at first.
I guess I was in the car for forty minutes before they could get me out, and then in the ER for over an hour. I don't remember any of this.
I didn't break anything or need stitches. But you wouldn't BELIEVE my bruises. My head suffered the most because as I sit here, I can't remember a lot of little things. If I turn my head to quickly or bend over, I pass out or fall over from the dizziness.
Well, I just thought I would share my story with all of you. I thought about everyone when I was in the hospital, wanting my computer so badly. But I am doing ok so far, but have a feeling I will be going back to the DR soon cause things are still frightening.
Please, wear your seatbelts. I am very very lucky, unlike my poor van. I love you all.
U can see where my head hit.

Oh my goodness, That is absolutley horrible. I'm so glad your okay, well sort of okay. I unbuckle my seatbelt all the time because it locks on me. Gosh, That car looks horrible. Thank goodness you're in better shape. So lucky to not have broken any bones as well! How's the other driver?
Wow, OC Mom..You are fortunate to have escaped more serious injuries...prayers and crossed fingers for a speedy recovery. yes be careful moving around, especially sudden jerks or movements, head traumas can be tricky at times. You will have to give yourself time to recover.
Not funny, but funny that you thought about getting back to your PC..a real extension of "life" it seems nowdays. Your Car looks sad, but it is replaceable, you are not, one day at a time, just take it easy. follow Drs. orders.
Modern day auto seat belts ..have minute sensors nowdays. If you move forward or any other fast sudden movement, they will lock up to restrain you. To loosen that lock without removing your belt, push yourself back into the seat, and gently pull the belt forward, that should loosen it enough for you to adjust yourself for comfort. or If you have your seat in a forward position, slide your seat back far enough to where you can pull the belt forward, then hold your belt away from your body and slide your seat forward again. This way you are not unbuckled in case of sudden impact. As OC Mom said, Please wear your seat belts, even close to home.
OC Mom you are in our thoughts here, take care, love reading your posts
OC Mom, what a shock to see your car. I am sooo happy you are "ok" and able to share your story with us. Please take care of yourself and keep us updated.
OC mom, what a frightening week you've had! I am so relieved to hear that you are on the road to recovery and escaped serious injury. Our truck has the same issue with the seatbelt locking and it's even been recalled and replaced twice! Scary and dangerous stuff. Thank you for letting us know how you're doing. Keep us in the loop as to your recovery. You will be in my family's thoughts and prayers. Stay safe and take extra care of yourself these coming weeks. Here are some get well soon flowers!!
OHHHH OC Mom! Right now I am wrapping my arms around you as tightly as I can without causing you more pain, telling you that I am so glad you survived and praying that everything will be alright while tears are falling down my face (not just because I imagine how scary it was, but also because I am so happy you will be okay).
Like everyone before me: take it easy and follow doctors orders.
I can't believe this! I and my family unlock our seatbelts ALL the time because they lock up. Thanks CSE DAD for letting us know a better way to unlock the seatbelts.
Oh my gosh -- I am so glad you are okay. Please take it easy -- the boards will always be here! We won't run away..... I say get in bed with your laptop, order that WORLDS package and watch cheer all day saturday and dance all day sunday.
That makes me think twice now -- How many times we are running late to practice and Danielle changes her clothes in the car (ie -- un-buckles the seat beat to get her tights and shorts on). -- NO MORE for us.
Please let me know if you need anything -- I'm home all weekend....
Thank you sooooo much!!! I just missed you guys and wanted to see what was going on. I have my laptop but I coudn't use it in the hospital. But I did find cheerleading on ESPN while I was there and I told the nurses to wait till it was over to check me again. It was my spot of sunshine. hehehehehehe
Today things hurt tons but I'm not quite as dizzy. They have me taking pretty good meds but I can't wait to get off them. I'm a Tylenol/Motrin girl. That's the extent of my drug taking. So this has been a new, and hurting, experience.
Thanks for the seatbelt advice too. I am always fighting with them. Being short, it rides my neck all the time, and that hurts. but trust me on this one, it doesn't hurt NEARLY as much as I hurt now!!!!
So now we have to wait for the insurance to decide what's going to happen. The other driver is just fine. She got burns on her one arm from the airbag powder, but I don't know if her Chevy Tahoe is a total loss.
Thanks for your well wishes. You are ALL so dear to me!!!!

Oh my!! Thank goodness your OK you can always replace the car. You had an angel watching over you for sure. Well I hope that you have a speedy recovery and your in our thoughts and prayers.
I just found this post! I have had a rough week as well, but nothing compared to OC Mom! I am sooo glad you are going to be ok and will keep your recovery in my prayers. It could have been so much worse and I am thankful that it was not. Take care!!
Ok first i would like to add..my post above, when you make adjustments to your seating comfort, make them while you are stopped.
Being short,.... there are products out there for wearing seat belt "comfort". There are sleeves, made of sheepskin and other fabrics, that are folded and shaped to go over the seat belt via velcro or snaps. Just slip them on the belt and fasten. Then once you are buckeled in, slide the sleeve up to your neck and it will help eliminate the cutting and chaffing effect of the belt itself. Great for T shirt weather, and most are washable. Also great for kids in the back seat who are grown enough to be out of a booster seat, but too short to eliminate the chaffing of the belt. They usuall run about 5 to 15 each depending on where you get them. Most auto parts stores have them, and probably your favorite wally world mart auto dept. If you wear a collared shirt or jacket, slip the belt under the collar.
There are also belt adapters out there, so that the belt does not ride as high on your chest or stomach if you are short statured. I would recommend that you go to the dealership of the make of your vehicle and ask them at the parts counter, since I believe that the item would have to be D.O.T. approved by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The belt sleeve is great for most older vehicles whose front seat belts are attached to the door post and rear seat belts are attached to the roof rail. In some of the newer vehicles you will find that the seat belts are an intregal part of the seat and that the belt comes through a slot in the seat, thereby the belt does not ride as high on the body, but on the shoulder only. Hope this helps.
If your child has to change in the car, PLEASE wait till you get to the gym, and are parked and the motor is off. A couple of extra minutes is not going to make that much difference, except to your lives and your safety. It is not just parents with cheerleaders that drive the roads, there is baseball, football, soccer, swimming, and many other numerous sports that we take our kids to. Seat belts are not a decoration. They help save lives and minimize injuries. I say that because I grew up when there weren`t any seat belts, and being tossed around inside a vehicle is not fun. Sorry for "soap boxing" my feelings.
Kris I am so sorry that happened to you. I hope you are feeling better. I printed out the picture of your car to show Brittany since she feels that a seatbelt is just a waste of time. Because she knows you, I think it may have made an impact (no pun intended). Hope you have a speedy recovery.
Oh my goodness OCmom! I just came on here and saw your post. Thank goodness your alive! It looks like you are a very lucky girl based on those pictures. I hope OCdad your new hubby is taking good care of you. Rest and take good care of yourself. Your car and everything else can be replaced. BUT YOU CAN"T and I and everyone else would be heart broken if anything happened to you. (I know we haven't met in person but I still feel like we are all family on these message boards. )Take care and feel better soon!
Yes, are the dizzy spells fewer and farther between? Have you been able to remember some of those things you weren't able to before?
OC Mom, I'm sure you will appreciate this: I'm trying to rate all the threads I read, trying to figure out why some show the rating on the front while others don't. But, I'm having trouble rating this one. How can I rate your horrible accident a high number of stars? How can I rate you wanting to share what happened a low number of stars?
