You use "The Church on the Hill" as a landmark.
You know that "Christmas in the Park" has very little to do with an actual park.

Those are great...however, we don't have he garlic smell 30 min from our house because our house IS 30 min south of San Jose...so we wake up to it! LOL! I've seen on of these about OC...I grew up there so I always get a kick out of it
Didn't recognize any of this since I "don't know the way to San Jose", but I've been a Sharks fan for 10 years.
Their AHL affiliate was in Lexington when I lived there and the coach lived behind me. Had a blast getting to know Nabokov, Mark Smith, Kiprusoff, Davison, Hannan and, especially Alex Korolyuk.
Funny story: Alex came to live the coach, Roy Sommer, the summer before playing in the AHL to work on his English. My son and Roy's son (both under 12 years old) used to play video hockey with Alex and kick his b***. Always made him mad.
That's so funny AceDad!!! i worked for the San Jose Sharks for 5 years in their pulic relations dept!!! I ahve so much Sharks junk that is sitting in my garage....
Oh Lord, don't remind me about shows about the OC. The really really sad part of it all is, it's sooooooo dead on. These women here drive me BONKERS cause it's all about the better car, better house, better boob job, etc. The one thing that I love about living here though, is since everyone has to have everything BETTER, you don't find a bad yard or cars junked, etc. It's always green. We have gardeners that trim the street CORNERS and more!!!!
But I do miss the San Jose way of life. People are much more relaxed. Now if only they would invest in a gardener......
I will take pics and show you want I mean. It's just CRAZY here....... ugggggg, I so don't fit in, that's for sure!!!

I travel to San Jose at least twice a year to teach classes. (I teach AHA CPR/First Aid in case anyone in the area has a need for the training-OK, there's my "plug" LOL!) and unlike ACEdad, I proudly "know the way to San Jose"!! I loved that song, and even did a skit to it when I was in third grade 100 years ago........... I agree with OC Mom about how the "San Josians" being laid back.....they are nice and friendly!! BTW, my first memory of going to San Jose was when my grandmother took me when I was 9 years old to tour the Winchester House! I found it fascinating, but scared the "Bejeebers" outa me when I was young! Anyone else been there? If not, it's an interesting place to visit..........
Speaking of Winchester Mystery House, I heard they had special tours for Friday the 13th... night tours, pitch dark with flashlights. How cool that would have been! Couldn't go unfortunately.

I heard that they do "Halloween" tours also! How spooky cool would that be?
Yeah, I wouldn't know. I've lived no more than 20 mins away for 20 years, and I've never been to the mansion. Every year I say I want to go, but I made it yet.
Ya know it's going to burn down, close, collapse in an earthquake or something and I'll be kicking myself.
I remember it being called "San Josie" Traveling over the Old Foothhill Blvd in Pleasanton to get to the Old Mission San Jose Highway, and then to 17, because 680 did not exist, nor 880 and all those other 80s..you took 17 south, (known as the Nimitz Freeway back then, and if you didn`t take a left there at the orchard, you would miss San Jose, and end up on 17 going to Los Gatos, over the hill and end at the beach in Santa Cruz. And that was a days drive. Oakland was a hundred miles away, Silicon Valley was not a name, they were called orchards then with fruit, veggies, walnuts, pecans, about 5 cents a pound, the only silicon, was Carol Doda, on San Jose ch 36..over the airwaves with "antennas" no cable, cars heated up over the hills, no anti freeze existed then, and the hills around San Jose were green they were not dotted with little boxes made of "ticky tacky" that all looked the same."you would have to know about Pete Seeger to remember that song" and The Winchester Mystery House was surrounded by empty fields with veggies growing..and i doubt that it will ever fall down, irregardless of the type of catastrophe that may surround it. Sara Winchester was so staunch and letigeous that the builders built the house better than earthquake proof buidings of today, somewhat. One thing is for sure, there Are friendly people in San Jose. Oh the word mall did not exist, nor did the malls, you went to the store...and the wood in the Winchester House is so dry now, But if you live near there and don`t go to see it, you will have missed something really great, and a historical part of San Jose, the fields are filled with buildings surrounding it, but the gardens are absolutely meticulous..hmmm, maybe you could get their gardner....not....ok thats my 2 bits worth. :o)
Loved your post, CSE Dad. Funny thing about Little Boxes, I actually learned that song in elementary school (many many years ago) and I wasn't even living in California at the time, I was in Chicago. Who knew I would be passing those houses made of ticky tacky later in life (I could be wrong but I believe it was inspired by all the houses that look just the same in Daly City). But it applies pretty much anywhere now.
