Thanks for the info Hayley. Sounds like we'll see great representation from the UK. Worlds usually gets some great teams from Latin American region. I wonder if we will see any of the China teams again?

I wonder why the international teams only get at-large bids? Since they typically have to travel so much farther, why can't they get paid bids? $25K would definitely help them be able to participate.

Just got official word from USASF that approx 20 countries will be represented at Worlds, currently 2 non-US Jr teams are registered, and approx 60-70 international cheer and dance teams are expected to register. Sounds like it will be another great year at Worlds.

Hey, I updated my Bids list to show placements so we can see how the At-Large bid attendees faired against the Paid bid attendees. Very interesting. I'm also updating it to include links to the Worlds performances. I'll use the Saturday links now, and update later with the Sunday performances. I'll send it to Danny and hopefully he will repost.
Give him a few days as I assume he is still in Florida at the coaches conference.

This will be interesting to see, thanks for putting it together! It's also interesting how California teams placed (top 5), almost a carbon copy of last year (CheerForce 3rd, California All Stars 4th, Power 5th). I'd also like to see how many in the top 3 or 5 were at NCA last year as opposed to Cheersport because it seems that NCA is like a preview to Worlds with all the top competition attending. Might be good to know for those deciding which to attend this coming season.
I just have to ask ... what is the NCA curse? I hadn't heard about it. We had some friends go to Dallas and all they talked about was how great it was to see Top Gun and some of the other amazing teams that did indeed end up at the top at Worlds this year. But I read they did have injuries from NCA, so maybe that's the curse??
The "NCA curse" is supposed to be the teams that do well at NCA don't do so well at Worlds. I never paid too much attention to whether it was "true" or not. However, I did find it humorous that I would read about NCA being a preview to what's going to happen at Worlds and then in a different post would be "oh, it looks like Pixie's Wicked Wings was one of the few teams to break the NCA curse" - of course this is on other message boards.
So, I decided to look into this a little. Granted, I've only done this year's Worlds, but "Mythbusters" would say this myth is busted! Here's what I found about the bids NCA awarded:
Sm AG (two paid, five at large) * one paid received 1st, the other 2nd * one at large received 6th, one didn't make it to finals and three didn't attend
Lg AG (one paid, two at large) * paid received 4th * one at large received 7th, the other didn't attend
Sm Coed (one at large) * the team received 10th
Lg Coed (one paid) * the team received 2nd
Summary NCA awarded four paid bids and eight at-large bids. Of those 12 bids, four didn't attend, one didn't make finals, seven made top 10, four made top 5 and three made top 3.
Now, even if there was a curse once upon a time, it's clearly broken. :)
Ah, thanks for clearing it up. In the case of Top Gun, they received a paid bid and had to decline it I believe (injuries), got another bid somewhere else and came in 1st at Worlds. So I think you have to look a little closer at some of them. You could also look at who ended up in the top 3 (or 5) and which of those teams competed at NCA vs. Cheersport. I could be wrong but I believe you will find the majority were at NCA. Of course if they weren't the same weekend you could do both, but alas....
Yeah, I didn't write my post from the aspect of looking at the Top 5 teams and which teams earned their bid from NCA. I thought it would be more "accurate" in trying to determine if there was a curse to look at the teams NCA awarded bids to and see how they did at Worlds - which was quite well, as you already knew.
I didn't include Top Gun in the NCA bids because Top Gun didn't use NCA's bid to go to Worlds. Maybe it was actually because of the curse....just kidding!
Here's a very half-hearted, didn't spend much time looking into it (meaning I got it from the USASF website, which I believe has finally been updated) breakdown of the Top 5 teams and where they earned their bids:
Sm AG * 2 from NCA * 2 from Cheersport * 1 from COA - Go Basics!!! Sorry, I just love that an "unknown" came and kicked booty. Also, the only at-large bid to break the Top 3 & Top 5. :)
Lg AG * 1 from NCA * 1 WSF * 1 ACA * 1 WCA * 1 UCA
Sm Coed * 2 JAMfest * 1 UCA * 1 ACA * 1 American Championships
Lg Coed * 1 NCA * 1 All Star Challege * 1 American Championships * 1 Spirit Sports * 1 WSF
Int'l Jr AG * 2 Cheersport * 1 Spiritfest * 1 Valley of the Sun * 1 ????? (Nan Ning No. 26 Middle School)
Int'l Jr Coed * 1 WSA * 1 JAMfest * 1 Athletic Championships * 1 Cheer America * 1 America's Best
Int'l Sr AG * 1 NCA * 1 Mardi Gras * 3 ???? (Cambridge Cheer Sports Sharks, Colombian All Stars, ScotCheer Scotland All Stars)
Int'l Sr Coed * 2 NCA * 1 USA * 1 Cheersport * 1 ???? (Gunagzhou Sport University)
