RE: American Showcase-Anaheim

Whether you add an "a" at the end of the word, it is still swearing to me. So, clever or not? I don't think it is appropriate, especially when you have young kids in a program. Doesn't matter if they aren't wearing them. They see them, read them, and the program supports it. And no, my kids aren't even allowed to say 'hecka'. Just one step away from swearing in my book. Yes, I know, I am conservative, and I will probably get reemed for voicing my opinion. But it is my opinion and I have a right to it. I think there are other "creative" ways to express your love for your gym and program.

I completely disagree. But that's ok. Hell is a biblical term. Not a swear word. Adding an a to the end of it, seems like the northern california way of saying anything. When I went up to Nor Cal two years ago for a competition almost everyone, not just the people at the competition, but the people on the streets, the citizens of San Jose... we're saying Hella. I thought it was funny. I was like, is that what you say all the time? And they were like, yup. What do you say? And I was trying to think of something that we said that was sort of like hella, but I couldn't figure anything out. I just think of hella, when I think Nor Cal. And it's usually used in a good terms... like "That routine was hella bomb." Hahahahaha, you Nor Cal people, coming up with your own language. I think it's cute.

I really enjoyed this weekend.  We got to see some amazing teams and I agree Nor Cal was well represented.  Congratulations to everyone especially to the all the girls from California Spirit Elite for doing such a great job this weekend, and way to go Youth level 2 'NATIONAL CHAMPS"!!!

In regards to the shirts....Ya, I agree. I think those are innaproprate. Especially when you hear everyone saying "hella." What a lack of a decent vocabulary, and no class!!!

When I 1st saw the shirts I didn't care for them, not that I thought they were inapprppriate, I just didn't like the saying. Now that you've explained that it's a regional thing - it makes more sense! I get it now! Cute!

I've lived in the Bay Area (Northern California) for most of my life and I can honestly say I've never heard this one before.  Regional thing?  Maybe it's a San Jose thing????

There's the No Doubt song Hella Good which I'm sure most of you know; pretty harmless lyrics, played everytime I picked my daughter up at the roller rink.  I guess they could have used a Hecka Good version for the tiny ones, or for the moms who think the original version has no class.

Definitely not a San Jose thing, I've lived in Mountain View, Los Altos, Sunnyvale, San Jose Palo Alto and Fremont and the kids in all those cities have been saying it for years.

I don't think it has anything to do with the word hell. That's like saying hello, is just hell with an "o" at the end. It seems to be mostly a synonym for really.

edited: or a synonym for a lot.

Having lived in Nor Cal my whole life except for my college years down south, "Hella" is such a Nor Cal slang term.  The use of it on the t-shirt...well I guess I can see why parents on young kids would'nt love.  Oh and I did see a interview with NO Doubt and they did get the term Hella Good from friends up in Nor Cal.

There are MANY songs out there that I wouldn't want my kids repeating the lyrics to. Most of the teenagers that use the word "hella" use it along with other swear words. You have to see who is saying it and how it is being used to judge. I have always hated the word and always will! Trust me, more Northern California residents dislike the word than like it.

We know that NorCal always has distasteful shirts anyway. Remember the shirts that said "Holla yall" when they went to Texas? Making fun of how someone speaks is totally inappropriate. Why not just stick with classy gym shirts? If you want someone to like you, don't do something to offend them!!!

Hmm, it sure sounds like this is personal for you, ExCoach, and is just a reason for you to slam another gym.   Speaking of no class?

ouch .. Its too bad you feel that way, ExCoach. Remember this message board is for people to be positive not rude! If you dont like the shirts, say you dont like them then leave it alone. No need to add little side comments, "We know that NorCal has had distasteful shirts anyway" that is not classy on your part!!! hymphhhh. (insert california foot stomp NOW) hehe
