Their reasoning is that they don't want someone going home in 30th place. But if you're in 30th place, you're in 30th place..... at least you know where you stand. BUT all it takes is a look at the score sheets to know where you WOULD have placed. My only argment against that is, there are different judges for each division, so who knows what your score would have been had you been judged against everyone else, by the same judges...
I guess I don't care either way. All together or not, it's up to the competition. It's their rules. There's a lot we won't all agree on.

Here is a response to a similar thread on CheerXS MB (it's mostly in the last paragraph):

To address the questions regarding relative versus objective scoring. The scoring is objective. Some things will always remain subjective - how do you standardize a score for 'creativity' or 'crowd appeal'? CHEERSPORT has worked very hard to separate the subjective from the objective (creating the point deduction judge, video judging).
First and foremost, remember that CHEERSPORT judges are professionals and are among the best in the industry. You can and will see these very same judges at other companies events and for good reason - they are very knowledgeable and good at what they do.
The whole purpose of LevelPlay is to let like teams compete against each other. CHEERSPORT invented LevelPlay (which went on to serve as a crucial part of the foundation for USASF level rules) specifically to eliminate the unfairness that comes in pitting teams of obviously different skill levels against each other. If a team competes at level 1, then you can't score their tumbling against the same criteria as you would a level 5 team, you have to judge them against the criteria for their own level. It's all about maxing the difficulty within your level, so yes it is very plausible that a level 1 team could score higher in running tumbling than a level 5 team. Does that mean the level 1 team could beat the level 5 team under level 5 rules? Very unlikely.
Regarding bids, the CHEERSPORT world bids process is fairly complex and a complete explanation is really not appropriate for these forums. But to get to the root of the issue, I can say that each of the Worlds judging panels come together and meet as one group where all of the Worlds teams and routines are presented to the entire panel. During this meeting the judges discuss the merits of the various teams and routines as well as review videos of all Worlds division routines so that regardless of which panel they were on, each judge does have an opportunity to learn about, share their opinion about, and view the performance of, every team in consideration for a bid.
More response from "CSWebmaster". I'm too lazy to switch over from "Quick Reply" to make the address an actual functioning link. Sorry:

Your characterization of this split as random is actually very accurate. In the case of this division, there were 23 teams so a split really was necessary for a variety of reasons. A pretty good explanation of what factors go into a split is posted on the website here: http://www.cheersport.net/competitions/nationals/NatQA.asp?content=splits
As you'll read there, CHEERSPORT very intentionally avoids using any subjective criteria when determining splits specifically to avoid giving any merit to charges of bias or favoritism. The job of a competition company is NOT to try to structure outcomes or tweak divisions to favor any team over another; rather it is to provide an awesome venue with friendly staff, unbiased judging and great scoring for teams to come showcase their incredible talent (and it was awesome this year!) and let the teams performances determine the results. In this crazy, exciting and emotionally charged world of cheerleading, CHEERSPORT has held fast to its promise to always try to be fair, honest and balanced in all we do. Even if you disagree with a decision or policy, hopefully you can understand the reasoning behind it, the merit of that position and respect CHEERSPORT for standing by its principles.
Hehehehe.... I had to read it twice too, to get all of the info to sink in....
