free cheering?

Ok, what do you think about this.....a local gym closes.  A gym with only a stunt group so far offers to pay for them to come over and go for a world's bid at the next comp!  The gym that closes didn't have a great track record, and the new gym has NO record.  Talk about recruiting! LOL  I feel it is setting up kids who have already been through enough to even TALK worlds at this point.  Opinions?

Uh......sounds a bit strange...that is alot of $$ someone is putting up!  Well at least the kids get to cheer!  If that gym is all talk, they will know by the end of the season and have a good reason to go to another place.  Or stay if it works out.  I don't know where or what this is, but I don't think a first year team has EVER done that..especially putting a team together a few weeks before the comp!  Right there I would run, but that is just me.  I just hope the kids get to do what they love to do.

ummm???  that sounds really strange.  however, this is not far from reality.  There are a few cheer gyms out there that are enticing cheerleaders with a chance to go to worlds.  however, like the first posting states the gym doesn't have a track record, of success, at the level of worlds.

these gyms are luring cheerleaders in with "free" options,  such as, you'll be on an elite team, free uniforms, or free private lessons, etc.   however, the sad thing is that the whole story isn't uncovered until the contracts are signed, like what is the definition of an elite team?  are the cheerleaders making assumptions that this is a level 5 team? be careful out there.

Are we talking about Club Cheer Twisters level 5 all girl team ? If we are why dont they just take the whole team over to Cheerforce. I bet Shawn could tweak the routine and get them an international bid at the USA comp and even if they didn't get a bid they could still finish out the season.

I think it all depends on where they are and what training they have had together. Most teams in Nor Cal or So Cal could not do that. I dont know about Texas and stuff because I dont live there. But I think it's possible!

So what is an Elite team? Cheer411 Sounds like you know the local gyms well. Which gym are you at? I would love to come and check out your gym you seem to be well versed and knowledable about cheerleading and gyms I noticed you are always on here commenting about all the different gyms and you seem to know who is who in the local cheer world. . Thanks for your help.

I think Cheer411 is just saying be careful of gyms that try to entice you with the promise of being on an elite team, without defining exactly what that is.

definition of an Elite team:  My definition would be the "highest" level team in the gym.  That could be anything here.  If the highest level in the gym is 2-3-4 then that would be the ELITE team.

I am just saying these young cheerleaders need to be careful when these gym through out terms like this one.  We all know that kids have high hopes to be on a level 5 team.

But honestly, know what your kid can bring to the table for a level 5 team.  If your child does not have a stand tuck or higher standing skill and doesn't have at least a full twist corner pass, your child isn't a level 5 cheerleader.  (of course there are exceptions to this rule, however this is pretty much the norm for most level 5 teams.)

Take at look at the whole squad and if the majority of the team members can't throw the level 5 skills either ,then there is a chance that the squad will be asked to perform at a lower level.

Just be careful out there.

Definitely true, we're already seeing level 5 teams dropping to level 4.    As we see skills advance, it takes so much more to be a successful level 5 team these days.

This sounds just like a situation near me....and I think that if something is free you get exactly what you paid for! We all know how much this stuff costs and I can not imagine why this would happen! Unless there is some kind of personal agenda behind the money, that is. I feel sorry for the kids, at least the kids in the situation near me. They have lived with so many empty promises, I wonder how many heart breaks they can take? But on the off chance it works out, GREAT! Personally, I doubt it. They could get a bid because the comp they are going to has many and most teams aready have them. But Worlds is scary, lol. ah well, good luck to them and I hope it all works out!

Got more info on this, I think it is kosher and I wish them much luck!

Got it thanks for the clarification.  So it can be any level just the highest one for the gym.  Sounds like this is a great opportunity for those that want to move in when they are in a smaller gym.  I will keep searching for a new gym.  I found some good ones in my local area..

Hold up! That is just my thoughts here.

I have no idea how gyms are using the term ELITE. That's something that you need to ask when you are searching for a gym this season. Gym owners may have another meaning for this title for their team. Just be careful.

Good luck with your search! Hope you find a fantastic gym!
