I think this may be the one time where the competition itself is going to give us the results before anyone attending. Please someone prove me wrong, we cheer addicted people need to know how it ended.
Sorry I was there and I just can't remember. Or at least well enough to state as fact. Checked the web site and they are not posted. Now mind you they still have the results from 2006 posted so when they might get around to updating it I don't know. I know that in the Youth Level 2 division Sacramento Royals got first and California Spirit got 2nd (Go Spirit!), and Cheer Tyme came in third.

I don't think they are a sister gym .. starstruck did choreography for... if I am correct, Cheer Odyssey.. But, I LOVE cheer odyssey!!

I think one of Odyssey's Coaches cheers on the Starstruck College team. I do not think Starstruck does choreography for Odyssey since Odyssey has their own choreographer. I could be wrong, but the coach who cheers for Starstruck is a tumbling coach (per web page). Either way I enjoy both of the teams.

Starstuck: You are going to do fantastic this weekend. Looks like your oldest dance team needs a challenger. Maybe, the Royals can change their category from Exhibition to actually compete at this competition. It would be really fun to see your oldest against their oldest compete for the National title.
Cheer Starz: Looks like you wowed them at Athletic Championships. Looks like you are going to be quite the contender this weekend. Work it!
CSE: Saw you at the CheerSport event. I really like your uniforms. You gals have the engery to give those judges what they will be looking for.
Royals: Good luck this weekend. I haven't seen you perform for some time now. But i am hearing good things about you. I'm so glad you get to actually "compete" at a National event this time around.
Ultimate: Wishing you the best! You're team took home a grand championship trophy. Hopefully, you can make it back-to-back victories.
Galaxy: Your Jr. Team is over due to win a title. Stay together and it could be a close battle .
To all those that compete in the specialized areas, such as, stunt groups, individuals: An extra big wish goes out to you. Not may people realize the extra amount of time - from you and your coaches - put in to be successful on the floor. Oh and did I say the EXTRA money. Good luck to everyone!
To all the other gyms that are attending this event: Good luck to everyone!!!
hi cheer411! i just wanted to let you know that the royals did end up competing against stastruck.and they won.thanks for all the nice compliments. hope to see you soon!
cj_blade wrote: Hey yall, I'm a coach at Ultimate and I hate to make a fuss... but I have NEVER seen such a poorly run event. First off, they didn’t have spotters for the cheer divisions. The reason for this was “Our spotters bailed out on us for Super Bowl Parties, guess a six pack was more important than this.” I couldn’t believe this.. because the game is on Sunday… The warm up matt times were all off, my senior level 2 team got a 10 point deduction for a coach spotting a stunt that was shaky, the stunt recovered but they were penalized for a spotter “assisting a mount”. Our senior coed level 4 team was docked 3 points for “boxer shorts being partly visible” (what is this? Stick It?!) And to top it all off, two boys and about 6 girls from a level 2 senior team competed with “program A” then went to the restroom changed into “program B” uniform and competed in a senior level 4 division with a completely different company… I can understand crossovers from within your own company but to Squad Hop? When this was brought up to the officials they said this was within the COA rules and nothing can be done. I am never coming back to a COA event. And I am writing a very long letter to the personal relations department. Last I knew COA was part of the USASF and last I knew an athlete competing with, lets say Top Gun can not change and cheer on Georgia right after… but according to COA, they look the other way… Welcome to Cheaters Of America!
I FEEL YEAH! THAT DAY WAS A JOKE. I'M NOT A POOR SPORT BUT I THINK THE JUDGING WAS HORRIBLE AND THE WHOLE SHMEAL ABOUT THE SPOTTERS WAS NOT RIGHT. MY MINI'S WENT OUT THERE AND THERE WAS NO WAY I WAS GOING TO LET THEM GO OUT THERE WITH OUT SPOTTERS. OUR PROGRAM WILL NOT BE ATTENDING COA IN THE FUTURE. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE GYMS!
Out of sheer curiousity, those of you that are against not having spotters at competition, do you have spotters at practice when you are doing run-throughs of your routine? Not when you're doing one or several stunt groups at a time, but when you are going full out at practice.

Yes, I do have spotters for my teams. Cheerleading is getting more and more dangerous and I want all my kids to understand that safety comes first when on that floor. I also respect my parents fully when one of their main concerns is safety. We haven't had any accidents yet (knock on wood) and I refuse to let it happen. We want to protect our kids as much as possible, they trust us.

I don't spot all the time, but when I put together a new group or something is brand new I do spot. I think its always good to spot the stunting elements, just for safety reasons. No cheer team is 100% safe and for minimal work on my part, why take the risk.
Very interesting!!! I've never seen anyone use spotters at practice EXCEPT when they are trying something new or someone is having difficulty.
Last year, we had 3 seperate incidents where spotters were in the way during a performance. Twice during tumbling even! It was very upsetting for the kids.
Spotters for the YOUNGEST ones (Tiny's & Mini's) but not for the older ones. I am not against spotters, but they need to be out of the way. No excuses. And that's tough because they don't know your routine. But spotters at levels 4 and 5 above should NOT be necessary.
My point here is..... if your team NEEDS spotters, they are NOT ready to perform that stunt and should NOT be doing it in competition. Your "spotters" are called "bases". That child should NOT hit that floor.
Mistakes happen, yes. Drops, NO.

I have to stick to my guns , especially because I used to spot NCA high school nationals and even the BEST teams drop. It's not about preperation, just reality. The companies that do not use spotters, Jamfest, Cheersport, and COA I see the most accidents at. When I watch UCA and NCA events I do not see the same type of accidents because of spotters. Things will still go wrong, but it makes it the perecentage go down. Sometimes spotters get in the way, but most of the time they don't . Coaches swear up and down they do, but usually in the video the girls are just more nervous with someone there that isn't usually. After all these years with spotters we don't have them. I just think its a little strange. I do look at those things when picking a competition along with other things. I think it takes more than organization and a good MC to make a good event.
And I agree with you for the most part. I think my main problem is with the teams that love to perform stunts they just aren't ready for. A spotter isn't there to help you along. Just to save your rear as you come down. I'm not against spotters at all actually. I just know that I'm not upset if they AREN'T there. I wouldn't base my decision on a competition because of the spotting situation. But then again, I don't base anything on anything since I'm not the one making the decisions!!! I'm just the photographer, mom, bank, driver, cook, referee..... lol

Hey OC Mom, you forgot to add "cheerleader" to your list. You are on the parent team, right? Maybe those spotters are needed for the parent teams. Hee Hee...
