I love my daughters gym but it's her 3rd one due to us moving. Here are my pet peeves that I've gathered over the years. Maybe some of the gym owners will take notes.
Changing practice times. ugh! I don't get it.
Adding practices. short of a last minute injury....again I don't get it.
Being asked for $5 here $10 there all year long. don't say it costs "this much" unless you mean it.
Coaches that preach attendance and then miss practices themselves.
Young coaches. If they can't have an intelligent conversation with me I don't want them coaching my daughter. If they text my daughter more than once a month they're not understanding their roll.
Right now I should know next seasons dates for summer camp, vacations, and holidays. Thank god my gym has that together.
WOW! That sounds like it deserves some venting. As for the adding/changing practice times, it would depend on the circumstances.... injury, etc... but for the rest...... all I can say is wow! That would NOT be ok with me. Maybe it's time to look for a new gym? We are never asked for extra money during the season....not for anything I don't think! And, I agree that it is NOT appropriate for the coaches to be the girls' "friends" outside of the gym. How do they draw the line between friend and coach once practice starts, or during a comp? They also need to remember that parents are forking over a lot of time/money/commitment and we deserve some professionalism from the staff in return! I'm glad you vented here, and I hope you're feelin' better!

IS BECAUSE YOUR GYM ADDED NEW TEAMS?

MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE THEY NEED THE EXTRA PRACTICES TO GET READY FOR WORLDS/NATIONALS

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE MONEY BEING ASKED FOR. CAN U BE MORE SPECIFIC ?

IS THIS THE NORM OR IS IT A RESENT ISSUE

TEXT MSG STUDENT IS NOT PROFESSIONAL BUT HOW OLD ARE THESE YOUNG COACHES ?
Right now I should know next seasons dates for summer camp, vacations, and holidays.SOME GYMS WILL NOT HAVE THESE DATES UNTIL RIGHT BEFORE TRYOUTS SO THEY KNOW WHAT THEIR NUMBERS ARE GOING TO BE. Thank god my gym has that together.

Wheeehhhwww. Thanks! I'll shut up now.
we used to get that alot from our old gym.
Always asking for coaching fees the day of competition - $20 to $50.
Last minute practices and/or last minute cancellations. @@
wow, I bet that gets annoying. Can you possibly provide general area this gym is in sideshow? Just to make sure we double check, or rather try to stay away from this gym? I dont mean to be negative but Im thinking some of these things especially a coach texting your daughter tend to be on the creepy sign. The line has to be drawn somewhere ya kknow?
It is hard to find gyms that are professional, well-run, have great skilled coaches etc. They are out there. It takes research, talking to the director, coaches and most of all parents. I would talk to as many parents as I could. Have a list of some of your questions ready and than ask them.
Alot of the pet peeves you mentioned are truly parent pet peeves. Find a gym that values and listens to the parents opinions. Great directors will take the time to listen.
Now, some programs already have it figured out and are doing a great job with all the details of running an awesome program. Others may have good intentions, have great coaches, but maybe aren't aware of some of the problems with the coaches or aren't good at the details of running a professional program. I think communication is key here. I would take some of these issues to the director and express your concerns. That is where change happens with communication. If it doesn't happen, than I would start looking elsewhere.
One thing to keep in mind is beware of gyms that appear cheap. My daughter was on cheergyms last year and I really appreciated the monthly tuition that included team coaching, tumbling once a week, summer camp, competition fees, special tshirts etc. I never got asked for additional money during the season. So, dont' get caught in a trap of thinking a program is cheaper. If your child is new to cheer, talk to parents and find out what the true costs are for an entire season.
My daughter is on Airborne this year. They did not have an all inclusive monthly tuition, but I knew up front at the beginning of the season what the costs were going to be and when they would be due. So, that was great also.
Boy my post was longer than I thought it was going to be. Sorry guys.
