We attended this competition last season and we didn't return this year. I'm not sure why we didn't return, but that's either where nor there. Anyway, take a look at this schedule. This is probably the smallest turnout for a competition I have ever seen.
On the other hand, I have to say this company gave each competitor some really cool stuff for the competitors, at the competition last season. Our cheerleaders received a traveling duffle bag and a stainless steel silver charm to put on a charm bracelet. The charm was actually really cute. The charm displayed their logo, but it was a unique idea and different.
Actually, maybe that would be a really cool trend for the competition companies to do. We could build a charm bracelet of all the competitions the cheerleaders attend?
Maybe my topic should have been...what companies give the competitors the best participate gifts?
It's at the memorial auditorium in Sacramento. The older building across the street from the convention center. Maybe it's not well attended this year because of the Jamz in Davis, and it's a 3-day weekend for a lot of us. I'm all for going to the comps that have great participation gifts for the kids!
well it depends, its a small comp which means you get home early .. AND it has several local teams like royals, rebels, sonic, UCF .. it could be a good prep comp before nationals just to get some extra practice in =) and hey, if they have good gifts thats even more of an insentive, right!
Im interested to see how much they are charging per girl and for spectators.
$12 for adults, $8 for kids to get in. As for the participants.... if you go to that website listed above it tells you what the breakdown is. I think the cheapest is $35 if you register early, (6 weeks) and then the price goes up from there.

You make a good point about getting ready for Nationals. But gosh, that is one expensive practice session.
Hey, cheerwatcher, what National comp are you going to?

Yea i agree! Thats why I wanted to see how much they were charging. A comp that size should be cheaper, but im guessing because of lack of teams they needed to overcompensate in fees.
We are going to several nationals: COA, Athletic Chamionships and cheer power west coast.

Well, it looks like I've answered my own question. The same company that hosted the regional competition (posted above) will be hosting probably the smallest National Competition out there.
This National Competition is so small that the host is having the cheer teams compete twice in one day just to make it look like the competition runs from at least 6 hours.
It's gotta cost the hosting company tons of money to run a competition in Hollywood. Honestly, I am so surprised that this event is not canceled.
Hey CheerWatcher - Cheer Power West coast? Is that the one competition that is held in San Diego?

That is a crazy compeition. Its so small, I wonder how the teams attending feel about the turnout. I know I wouldnt be too happy if we were attending a small compeition. Even with the teams performing twice they are still done by 6pm .. hmm.
ROYALS Attended this competition in hollywood. This was very small, most of the younger teams did not notice because they really dont understand they just love to perform as a team. however for our older and more competitive teams this is difficult. It seems to be a waste to go if they dont have any competition. The hard part is, when you already pay you dont get a refund of the cost. Especially for Nationals, and these are the most expensive, so we take it to the parents when we can to see if they want the added expense of going out of town only to compete against a few teams or loose out on the non refundable cost of registration. It would be nice to have a policy that says if the registration is low a organization can get credit or a refund. However I do understand they put alot of work and effort in coordinating their competitions and when teams like ours (with 10 teams attending this competition) decide to cancell this can really put a dent in their budget, as I am sure they budget and plan based upon registrations and they I assume have already put in money to cover the awards, gifts and I am sure the Venue charges them a non refundable fee. What are the thoughts on this? What do other teams do to ensure they are going to a full competition? What are the best competitions to attend, (planning for next season) Is there a list of the TOP Competitions for the Northern California Teams for regionals and Nationals. I would like to hear what others have to say about the top competition companies and why.
We personally enjoy the following, not in any particular order. JAMZ: Our Kids Love the FUN at these events. The JAMZ Staff are all so much fun to watch and our kids just love them all. GSSA: We like this one because it just seems to be so well run and always has great teams POWER: Because, John always has it together, he is ontime and organized. I really enjoy the scoring because the JUDGES give us tons of feedback which we can use to improve AND although we have not been yet we hear Cheer Gyms Spirit Spec is also fab. It will be on our list next year. We saw the videos and I can honestly say if their competitions are run as nicely as their programs it is probably one of the best. I think because it is run by a GYM owner they know what other gyms like to see/have at competitions.
Can someone start a post about what are the TOP COMPETITIONS to attend and the projections for next year. As we start to think about planning our competition season it would be nice to see where everyone is going so we are sure to have plenty of teams present. By the way this has been a wonderful cheer season thanks to all the great gyms and gym owners... Looking forward to many more to come.. Royal Staff Coach
I personally like Jamfest, American Championships, and UCA events. I have been to many others, but those companies stand out in my mind. Mainly because of warm ups, the staff, and just seems to keep moving.
What events are teams thinking about attending next year or liked this year and hope to go back to. I heard through the grapevine that USA All Star Nationals and Amerian Showcase will be in February which be hard due to Cheersport/NCA. I know traveling 2 times in one month is hard so just wondering what everyone plans on doing next season?

This is big news if it happens. Major conflicts with some of the bigger competition companies. Should be interesting.

ummm! well, i find this interesting. your organization has been around for some time now, right? i would think that a cheer organization would be aware of what types of competitions are out there and when it's a good time to take a chance on a "new to California" competition host. maybe the best time to take a chance is at the regional level only or if the national competition is in your own backyard. it's just difficult to justify a weekend getaway that cost a family $500 or more for a weekend when there isn't any competition.
hopefully, you all have some more nationals lined up between now and April to make it fun for all your age categories (the older teams).

Well we did have a blast. It sounds like you did too when yo went in years past.
Thanks for your opinion. I will share with our management. Have a great week..

That is not always true. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jamfest had a nationals in Long Beach last year and it was the first year and they had plenty of teams from what I read. Honestly it is up in the air with cheerleading, because people sign up last minute or back out. I think dates and venues play a huge role.
It’s just extremely hard as a parent to pay all the expenses (travel, hotel, fees, etc) and not have your daughter competing against another team. I can understand if this occurred 1 or even 2 times (because we were trying out a new company) but I would be really upset if it occurred a lot during the season, especially at the National level.
Jamfest and Pacific are in two different leagues. Jamfest is well known, in the cheer world - acrossed the U.S., and has great marketing strategies.
When I look at Pacific's season schedule, Pacific only had one regional competition in northern california. Perhaps, they should have had another regional in southern california. If more teams could have "tested the waters", with a regional competition, perhaps they could have drawn in more of the southern california clientele.
If you want to go against others at a Nationals competition, it is very easy to choose based on the attendance years prior. Jamz Nationals in Vegas, American Championships in Anaheim, GSSA Nationals, they all draw many teams and you are guaranteed to go against tough competition. I think that isn't always the goal, which is why gyms try new ones. I'm with the parents who don't want to pay major bucks to go against nobody.
