Universal Spirit Worlds Bids

What is your opinion on how Universal Spirit will be awarding bids? Do you think it is okay for a team with a lower score that got first place to get a bid over a team that has a higher score in different division but didn't get first place? Interesting debate. I'm still waiting for the schedule to be posted so we know who is going for the 4 Worlds Bids.

Below is the criteria and process by which the Worlds bids will be offered:

  1. Only teams that win one of the Worlds divisions (Senior Large All Girl, Senior Small All Girl, Senior Limited and/or Senior UnLimited) are eligible.
  2. The judges for the Worlds divisions, including several that have judged previously at the Cheerleading Worlds, will discuss the routines of the Worlds-division winners and rank these teams based on routine difficulty, choreography and overall impression.
  3. Based on the rank determined in step 2 above, the top team will be awarded the full paid bid and the next two teams will be awarded the at large bids.
  4. The International At Large Bid will be awarded to the highest scoring International Level 5 team.

Do you mean that a team in a seperate division that wasn't eligible? Or a 2nd or 3rd place team that WAS eligible but didn't get it?

Sorry, I probably confused the issue with my previous example. Try this example. Team A and Team D won their divisions and got bids. But team D has a lower score than Team B. Do you think Team A and Team B should have gotten the bids because they were the highest scores or should the bids only go to the division winners even if their scores were lower?

Large Sr Lv5 Division:

Team A 98.5 1st place and bid winner

Team B 95.6

Team C 95.2

Small Sr Lv5 Division

Team D 88.0 1st place and bid winner

Team E 87.0

Team F 85.0

Team G 84.0

Ohhhh yessss, I see now. Hmmmm....

I guess TO ME, it should be the way it is. Only because they would compete in the division that they belong (small vs large). I do see how they COULD both win a bid, but then they would be giving out more bids. I guess it makes sense that they give out one bid for each division.

Am I making any sense at all? I think I even confused myself!

Yes, you're making sense. I just find it interesting that each cheer competition awards bids differently. Some go by the highest scores overall, some go by division winners, others take the top 6 (or so) scoring teams for all divisions and have them compete against each other.

I think its hard to choose which is the right way.....meaning, there are some companies that want to send not only the highest score but a team from a division that they think will do really well.  Meaning that if Team X in Large Senior 5 scores a 90.0 and Team XX in the Small Senior 5 divison scores a 89.9, you might choose the small senior team if you think that they will fare better at Worlds then the Large Senior team....you know what I mean?
