Legal behaviors

Ringers

Bumping kids that have been on the team (paying tuition/going to practice) all year or for several years, for someone brand new who has a better tumbling pass or better skill set, well after teams have been established (fall and winter months)

Keeping kids on the team, even though they have been caught with drugs

Borrowing kids (not college age) from other gyms to go to nationals with you.

A gym is going to do what is needed to win. They like to win, it brings them more money. The drugs thing I don't like at all. At my gym you get caught drinking or doing drugs you are off the team. But if someone comes who is better then you well bye bye you are gone. You need to earn your spot on a team. You can have it one second lose the next to someone else. I don't like teams calling in other people either, but hey it happens.

Maybe, but as a parent, if I have paid tuition since April and my child has done nothing warranted to be removed from the team, then she better be on the floor competing. This isn't hs where its an honor to be on the team and you may have to accept being an alternate or pro where you're paid to be on the team. This is a business. If they have been collecting fees from me, then I better get something in return. I can see not automatically being placed on team of choice in the beginning of the season, but if the only reason my kid loses her spot is because some kid with a double full combo left his or her team mid season and is replacing mine, then no. Not right.

And what happens to you when that happens? Are you moved to another team? What if the other teams are full? Would you then in turn bump someone from the lower level team because you are more skilled than someone there? What if there just plain isn't anywhere else to move you. You are all the sudden an alternate? What happens to the money you've paid into the gym? Refund or SOL? If you meet all requirements of your team whatever they may be...triple toe back and a full, then you shouldn't be arbitrarily removed during the season because someone else with a triple toe back and a double shows up in November.

I can understand if they place 40 kids on the team and say 5 of you will not be on the floor, so you better start working hard for your spot. But, I really don't think a team that has been set, should be changed for some newcomer after the season has begun.

Hello...

case in point Calif Allstars Coed lost some girls that didn't have the skill level of the boys from NCE and guess what, the boys are no longer alternates and the girls are gone. The college people are extra for the weekend competition and will leave so that opens those spots but I guess they'll stay opened until they need the college people again.

Actually

Actually the boys on California Allstars did not have a position on the team to start with. Several guys and girls quit the team because of personal reasons and so now all three of the boys have permanant spots on the team. And I must say that CA's coed team must be doing something right if people will move to California from all over the US to be on that team. Not to mention they have athletes that fly to practice weekly and kids that drive 5 hours both ways to be on that team.

It would do every one some good to just support all of those hard working kids who will go above and beyond what a normal athlete would do to be a part of the best Coed team in California. These athletesare serious about the sport they are involved in and do not deserve to be bad mouthed by any one for any reason.

In my opinion that team performs on a level that no other team in this state can even come close to. Maybe thats why they have so many athletes that attend Morehead, Kentucky, Louisville, Steven F. Austin, Hawaii and many more....... Think about it and respect the talent and drive!!!!!!

The boy's go to California Allstars because they get to cheer for free. If you have talent they will do anything to recruit you. If you bring a boy that makes the squad you get fee's off. I know of people who have made alot of money by doing this.

You know I have contemplated the topic of moving people off teams if someone new with higher skills shows up. I cant really decided what the right answer is. I am very loyal to my athletes but at the same time if their is a new girl that comes in with a triple toe back and full or double you would think that the least qualified girl might lose her spot. Its not the lesser of the two's fault that random girl moved into town. I don't know. It has not happened to us so I cant say how I would react. But I do know that the gyms that have done it or do it are high profile gyms. Those kids fight for their spots everyday. I dont think its a suprise when it happens , its just the way it works at certain gyms, and they have the titles to prove it.

I know I might get blasted with ' well isnt for the kids?' yes it is. Its just that certaing coaches see that giving the team the best of the best is what is best for the kids.

so wrong

once again you are wrong.... the boys go to California Allstars because they WANTED TO BE PUSHED by one of the best coaching staffs in the country. Whether they cheer for free may or may not be true but that is not the REASON they cheer their. California Allstars produces some of the best college athletes in the sport of cheerleading and that is a well known fact. As a young athlete you want to be given the best chance possible to excel in your sport. That opportunity is given inside the California Allstars gym. That coaching staff has an incredible gift for modivating youngsters to reach beyond their highest expectations and acheive greatness. When California Allstar athletes get to college squads they stand out as being some of the toughest and most talented athletes on the team. California Allstars will be on the floor this weekend in Vegas and you will be able to witness that greatness first hand...... until then talk about what you know and not what you have heard........ Read this post several times so it sinks in that there is more to cheerleading than just how much you pay to compete!!!!!!

Economic Reality

Date:

Coaches of top programs across the country do the same thing to recruit the top athletes to their gyms. (Give free tuition) This is particularly true of talented male athletes. It is part of the economic reality of running a gym. Top athletes help your team have success. Success brings in new customers for all of the teams in your gym. Any money that you may lose on not charging a male athlete tuition is more than offset by the eventual money you make on future new customers.

The all-star landscape is littered with gyms that have failed - in many cases all it takes is a single off-year to send a gym in a downward spiral of athletes leaving because they feel they have "a better chance to win" at a rival gym. If so many parents and athletes didn't base their gym decisions on the win/loss rate of the gyms, then perhaps the coaches wouldn't feel so much need or pressure to recruit these types of athletes.
