all star vs. high school

It is different. I almost wished we weren't called cheerleaders becasue its different. Being in all star team is all about competition. HIgh school is mixed with rallies, games, sidelines, and possibly competition. All star cheerleaders work on new gym skills all the time. Ie. Back extension rolls to standing fulls. They are primarly gym focused so they will add many gymnastics skills and variations on stunts. The dancing in all stars are much more dance focused and school team dances are usually just motions.

Main thing is they are different, so comparing the 2 is not really a good idea.

They really are different, and I also wish there was a new name for all star competitive cheerleading so that people would understand the difference. Many all star teams don't even do cheers in their routine anymore, it's all dancing, stunts, and tumbling. Yes, I know that's not where it started, but it has evolved into something almost completely different and I think it needs to be acknowledged somehow.

i completely agree, the two are VERY different, i think that to be an all star you have to be dedicated 100% to the sport and your team, whereas in high-school cheer most people are in it just because they want to be able to call thereselves a cheerleader, or because their friends are doing it. Now i know that this is not true in all cases! some high-school cheerleaders are way more dedicated than some all-stars, but for the most part i believe all-stars HAVE to be more dedicated whether they want to be or not, its part of being on the team, and you can't not be dedicated and put in 5 to 6 hours a week, plus any extra classes, it just doesnt work.

well im a high school cheerleader.and i cheered for all stars last year.my mom wouldnt let me do all stars for a while.so i would call myself a competive cheerleader.but not only am i at pracitce 3 days a week.but im at tumbling for 2-3 hours and open all star gyms on weekends.but i honselty think that if you wanna play around and do what do high school cheer or even pop warner but if i want to b serious then do all star.but honeslty for the people who dont have the money to do all star cheer the closetest thing is high school cheeer if you compete.

I find in Northern California, especially these small suburban areas, is the parents push their kids to do high school teams for popularity. I have heard from over a dozen parents mouths that " I want Sally to meet boys and get popular in high school". I am almost appauled when they say that, but what can a coach do but support them in any deciision. Now there are VERY strong school teams, but for the most part many girls do it for the social aspect. All stars are somewhere you know the girls want to cheer because of the sport. You know this because their is no games or rallies, its all about competing to see who is the best. It's just the reality.
