Ok, remember the tshirt idea for Worlds? Do you think we could do the same for Atlanta? Maybe everyone could wear it one night while there so that we all could be united from California? Maybe a headband? Maybe something else??? Does anyone think this would be a cool or dumb idea..... I thought it would be kinda cool.
Cheergyms/CheerForce/American/anyone else what do you think??????
I don't care for the idea, to be honest. At Worlds it made sense. It said these are the teams from California who earned the right to be here. What you're talking about is, here are the teams from California who have come up with the money to attend this particular competition in Atlanta (others are spending money to attend NCA in Dallas). Some gyms aren't spending money to attend either. I think t-shirts are great when you're advertising who in your area has qualified for something (like in other sports). But to simply advertise these are the teams from California who have decided to cough up the money it takes to attend this particular competition in Atlanta, I dunno, it's just not the same. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will disagree.
To add to the last post, it also leaves those California teams attending who don't read this message board out. With world qualifiers, you knew who they were and could contact them to see if they want to be included. But this is just an out-of-state competition, and you have no idea what other California teams are going. I don't think you want to leave them out.
I agree. I wouldn't want to leave anyone out. I was just on the track of California being united UNLIKE we usually are. I just thought it would be nice to go as one instead of those who coughed up money. But that's ok. It was just a thought. I wanted us to be as one is all. Thanks for your input!!!!!! ;)
There's no doubt you had good intentions, Goin To Georgia. It is nice to think of all California teams as one. Seems like that's the way it should be, all of us supporting each other. I hope we see more of that this season.
I know this may sound corny..but my fav. cheer moment thus far, is from last season at the end of the GSSA Super Six! Every program was cheering for each other. Yes it was a competition and 25K was at stake..but if you were lucky enough to witness that comraderie..it was magic!
Can it always be like that? maybe not. But it would be nice if all spectators and cheerleaders for that matter, could acknowledge the fact that everyone works hard. Hopefully we can be supportive of all teams when we travel, especially those from your home state. Cali is getting a bad rap. We want to show them that Yes! We are talented, but we also want to show that we are good sports!
Good Luck everyone this season, I can't wait to see all the new tricks!
Wow - I feel ya! We were there just watching the Super Six and I had such chills. It was such a magical night!!! It was awesome being with a rival gym and cheering on the awesome Nor*Cal teams that had the opportunity to try for the Worlds bid. Congrats again to POWER, Motions, Cheergyms All American Team, So Bay Elite,Cheer Force. It definetly was a super night in the all star cheer world.
Yep I did ask and I thank you for your input. I truly do. I didn't know how it would go over at all. I know Georgia isn't as important as Worlds, but I thought it would be nice to be a giant front instead of a bunch of smaller ones in the big sea of cheer giants. That's why I even thought maybe something cheaper than tshirts. Something smaller. A banner? Bandana's? I don't know. It just would be cool is all. You know?
To t-shirts, nobody is complaining, and it's not about money. I'm surprised you can't see that. It's about leaving other California teams out (some are going to NCA, some aren't going to any out of state). It's about not treating this competition in Atlanta as if it were Worlds; it ain't, it is simply another competition that some California teams are attending. If you have anything (headbands, pencils, doesn't matter) you're going to leave out the ones who don't read this message board, and you're only going to include the ones who do. What's the point of that.
True, but you can avoid it when possible. I agree that if you have a t-shirt that lists a bunch of teams in any sport, it should mean they've qualified for something. Not a list of who you happened to ask at the time the shirts were printed.
Well, that's why my initial idea was to use CALIFORNIA as the theme and not list teams. Plus, no one will be left out once we find out who's competing a few weeks before and then we send them a quick note telling them what we are doing and where to get the stuff should they want to participate. There's always a way.
I think I am just amazed at the negativity surrounding this a little. It's just an idea of a way to unite us and there are those who can't seem to get past the "but I'm gonna get left out" instead of finding a solution. And we wonder why we can't all get along.....
Well, if anyone has anything constructive to say, I would LOVE to her it, negative or positive. But let's try and be a bit older than 5 and stop the nastiness. I am trying to do something nice here.
Or as your mama would say.... "If you don't have anything nice to say.... don't say anything at all."
I just started reading this thread and honestly, I don't see anything negative about it. You (original poster) asked for opinions, you got them. Where has it been negative?
I would be for t-shirts that simply said California. We're going to Atlanta, but I don't want to wear a shirt that lists any teams (usually the most popular). Is someone going to contact the teams who are going when they post the competition schedule? I think people assume all these gyms read cheergyms.com, which is not the case.
Maybe the folks going to NCA could do the same kind of thing. Maybe we could use the same t-shirt for both?
I think the main point others were trying to make is that if you're going to do something like this, you need to make sure it doesn't go the opposite direction and end up dividing teams in California, like we saw at Worlds. And as a final note, if you're going to ask for an opinion, don't be defensive when it doesn't go your way (talk about acting your age, take your own advice, please).
I give up. I tried to be nice and then I get criticized. Nevermind. I will make our gym our own shirts. You guys can fend for yourselves. At least I know I tried......
Here's an idea ... take the criticism and ideas and think of a constructive way to make it work instead of taking the comments personally and giving up. Just a thought. Probably best to let your gyms do their own thing than to possibly cause division. I think it would have turned into a popularity thing, with all the larger more well known gyms wearing these t-shirts (or headbands, hats, or whatever) that the smaller gyms were not in on. It would take some coordination to do it right, and who has the time for that? Nice try though.
I think it would be great if gyms attending out-of-state competitions, be it Cheersport or NCA or Jamz Nationals, whatever, had t-shirts that let everyone know they were from California. So instead of certain gyms wearing the same California shirt, which would be a nightmare to coordinate, you just kind of get the word out that it would be cool to let the others know what state we're from. I know our shirts simply say our gym, and nobody would know where we're from if they didn't ask. I'm going to suggest to OUR gym that we have shirts that say something like California Cheer, or maybe our gym name, and the state right next to it. I think every gym could do their own thing, as long as it had the state, and it would accomplish the same goal. Good idea Goin'.
