does anyone else think it would be cool to get all the nor cal teams together for cheer camp one year and have james speed or someone amazing do the camp? i think it would help out a lot of teams with the little competition and be so much fun.
I like the idea, but I think cost is always an issue, and some gyms have camp at their own facility to help families save $$$. If you could do it cheaply, find a central location, and not have any particular gyms make money off of it, then maybe some would consider it. It's nice to think about anyway.
Hey I coach at a gym here in Nor Cal and wouldn't be opposed to it. Also parents don't oppose to something that will help their program out. Most teams do some type of camp, retreat or something anyways, this will take its place or make it optional. At least put the option out there. The only problem with all stars is that other coaches try and recruit at those type of events. I think if you give a gym enough time they can plan a budget that it would work. Schools go to camp with each other, so can all star programs.
what do you mean all the gyms in nor cal? if you look at the list there is ALOT of them, are you talking about specific teams or all the programs in nor cal?

You can't exclude teams from coming to a camp so it would be very difficult trying to keep it just Nor Cal Teams. Besides, I see more intensity and whats the word.....anger? between the Nor Cal teams. I wish all the Nor Cal teams would stop treating eachother like garbage and represent Nor Cal with some power. It just seems like the gyms need to come together and represent Nor Cal. You know how cool that would be if all the gyms had "NOR CAL" shirts. It should just be an unwritten rule to get up for your fellow Nor Cal team!
Well someone could organize the camp and advertise it to all star programs around Northern California. Make it exclusive to only teams in Northern California. I would say from Fresno up to top of the state. Teams can choose if they want to attend just like if a high school was going to a UCA camp for the summer.
I don't want to get blasted for saying this but I don't see that much anger and intensity between the Nor Cal teams, I really don't. I do between So. Cal teams, and between Nor Cal teams and So. Cal teams. Maybe that's just me.
I think it would be great if we all promised ourselves we would truly support ALL the teams we compete against...I mean wish everyone luck when they walk by, make no judgements based on perceptions of poor sportsmanship, or based on uniforms, or based on anything from the past, it's a new season afterall. I know we're all in it to compete, but it doesn't mean we have to be nasty to each other. Camp is a nice bonding thing, but if we can't have that, let's still try to bond. Afterall, we all share the love of the sport, right?
I think that the camp is a great idea. I also hope that some of the smaller gyms will merge in the next few years. There are so many small gyms in Northern California and they peak about 4 maybe 5 teams. Usually most of the teams are small (under 20) with one or 2 of them being large. It would be great to see larger gyms of 9-12 teams with many of the strong coaches working together to really put out some amazing teams. Imagine that!!
I agree with the NorCal and SoCal agression but not between the SoCal teams. We all get along down here. There's a few trouble rousers but everyone has those. The big gyms all get along though.
That's great that the southern CA gyms get along. I think the post was just basing it on some of the postings we see here, but you can't go by that anyway because who knows who is really posting what.
For the most part, I would also say the Northern CA gyms get along with each other. A few play favorites and bond with others more than the rest (big gyms bonding with other big gyms), but you probably get that anywhere.
It would be great to mix the big gyms with the smaller gyms at something like a camp where you're all working together, not competing against each other, because I think there would be more respect for the members on an individual basis. You'd see the true talent that is out there, especially from smaller gyms who don't get quite as much recognition. Everyone would be working together, learning off of each other, how cool would that be?
To Thinking, are you saying you hope to see Motions merge with Pyramids, for example? Motions is a small gym (three to four teams). I think they do pretty well on their own. Yes, they are part of cheergyms, but as we've been told numerous times, they are still their own separate gyms. Just trying to understand what you meant.
Cheergyms.com is a corporation in my eyes and does well on their own. I mean the other gyms. If you look at the Nor Cal roster thread, most of those gyms have 1-4 teams mostly. Most of those teams are small with most of the attention on the "best" team in the gyms. An example would be Club Spirit Rockets and Roseville Cheer Starz. thats just an example, but I think this part of the state would benefit. With gyms opening and closing all the time its time for all stars to get more stability.
Cheergyms is a corporation, but aren't the gyms independant? Motions and 720 would be considered small gyms, based on the post that said 4 to 5 teams. Now merge the two, and you have something the size (and larger) of Pyramids. Colony and Focus, I think, closed because of poor attendance. The same could potentially happen to Motions and 720 (not saying it would mind you), but it could if the idea is that the larger gyms are the strong survivors in this very competitive sport. I know this is going off in a different direction, but it does pose an interesting question about the difference between gyms like Motions and 720, and gyms like the examples Thinking used (Roseville, Club Spirit). If gyms under a corporation like cheergyms do well on their own, Colony and Focus would still be open. A closed gym is a closed gym, regardless of what corporation you're under. So when Thinking says it's time for all stars to get more stability, let's include all small gyms and not exclude them if they're part of cheergyms, because that makes no sense.
By the way, I agree with you, Thinking, even though we may disagree on the point mentioned above. There is strength in numbers, and I think Northern California would definitely benefit if more gyms merged, pooled all of our talent. Maybe that would be more evident if we had some kind of camp like we're all talking about.
it all depends on the configuration of the merge and the willingness of the coaches to cooperate.
alot of gyms combined this year, i wonder how its going to work out.
In response to the earlier posts...i wonder how much of the closing of gyms both in nor and so cal are due to not only poor attendence but poor coaching and businesness management. Good programs are good programs and I just can't understand how a good program goes down due to poor attendence when cheerleading is becoming one of the most popular activities in the state for both young girls and boys. Good programs are great withstanding programs for a reason: not just because they win but because they treat their atheletes and coaches with respect and run their programs with integrity.
and to that i say congrats pyramids. They've been an awesome program for as long as I can remember, and as far as i can see, have been the flagship for northern california allstar cheer. I hope you guys keep it going for years and years to come.
