It's true Pyramids is having a Special Needs Class that will hopefully turn into a competitive team by November.
The class is on Sundays from 12:00-1:00 pm. The class is designed for athletes with special needs who have an interst in cheerleading. We will conditioning/stretch, jump, dance, motion technique, tumble and stunt.
Please tell your friends and family of anyone who might be interested. If you have questions, please contact me at jodi@cheergyms.com
I'm happy to see you starting this program again. This is a program that is desperately needed in Northern California. It takes a special person like yourself to work with these wonderful kids. I hope we get a large turnout. As you know, I support you 110% with this program. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Good Luck!!
It sounds like a great chance for kids to get to do cheer who usually have no choice but to sit out o any activity. I would also be happy to help out if needed.
In regards to Worried Mom. I feel that you are entirely rude and it was uncalled for in that response and I hope that if you ever have more children and one needs this type of class you will certainly grab it by the horns and step up to your child. Cheerleading is a sport for all not just the athletic who are elite but for ALL! I figured with a comment like that you wouldnt have the guts to let anyone know what your real name was, but as you can see I am Kevin and will be happy to discuss this at any time. My Neice is special needs and I will stick up for whatever any person like you has to say about it, as they are people too and have feelings.
First of all, I would like to say that not all Pyramids parents have the same opinion as "worried mom". There are many, many families that are very supportive of an activity that will allow kids to participate in a sport just for the joy of being part of a team. This team will enjoy every moment, form friendships and truly be champions - no matter what happens. It is refreshing to think of a team (special needs or not) that will be so far removed from the drama surrounding the rest of the gym. It seems from this post that some parents are feeding the drama, not encouraging the hard work, team unity and true spirit of cheerleading. Worried Mom should not be upset that a special needs team will ruin Pyramids reputation. If that is truly the way she feels, it is going against the feeling of "family", that Cheergyms is trying to promote. Cheergyms is about team work and including people - not excluding them based on fear that they are different! Opening our doors to kids of all types will be a positive experience that can only enhance our gym. And by the way, the competitions this team will attend will be SPECIAL NEEDS competitions. These participants are not out to count thier victories - they feel like winners just because they are out on the mat. Be happy that you have healthy children that are able to compete at an elite level. Not everyone is so lucky. That does not mean they should be excluded from things that many people take for granted.

Cheergyms.com had a special needs team at Colony, and I thought it was great! The kids were so nice, and it was so much fun to help out with! If any team is going to be undefeated this year, I deffinatley think it will be special needs!! Jodi, if you ever need help I'm sure Mimi and I will come out there to work with the team!

Did this lady REALLY write this? No, seriously I can't believe I just read that. I question what she has taught her children as they were growing up when they noticed ANYONE who was different than themselves. Hmmmm there are so many pungent points to be made here, where do I start??
First: This woman obviously has no clue what Pyramids and especially Cheergyms.com is all about. I wonder if she has ever even spoken with Danny or Morton.
Second: Successful cheerleading teams are a collaborative creation, not solely based on the skills of a few cheerleaders. Innovative choreography, experienced and skilled coaching, leadership, drive, vision, unification, love for the sport, team work, and being open to receive success is what makes a cheerleading team and ESPECIALLY cheergyms.com successful. Has this woman not noticed that Pyramids places EVERYONE who tries out on a team? Meaning there is already a very diverse range of skills at Pyramids AND they are STILL extremely successful. Duh!
Third: There is no need to fear what you don’t fully understand, or a new adventure. Cheergyms.com would not be the success they are if they feared a lack of trophies.
Fourth: Since when did Pyramids and Cheergyms.com care about others judging their reputation or perceiving it as “less than” because they offered kids, who would otherwise not get a chance, to participate in a sport they love. How can you loose when you see how happy these kids will be??
Totally irritated by ignorance and still Lovingly yours, ~Jennifer McCallson
It does sound like a great chance for all kids to join an activity.Especially because their "special need" might limit them to certain things.Myself and my friend MacKenzie would love to help out with routines or anything needed. It is a real shame that someone "Worried Mom" would think it would ruin our reputation. Its not always about winning its about having fun.Anyway,we would be glad to help anytime.

Wow if you think this then you really shouldnt be a part of cheergyms.com. this program is all about being supportive, working as a team to be your best, being respectful, and letting everybody have a chance.
we all need to realize that everybody needs to have a chance to do everything no matter what. being in special needs does not mean that you arents as good as anyone else, in fact, i think that every person that is a part of special needs is amazing. there just like all of us. oh and also, special needs doesnt mean that the team is for children with learning disorders only, it can also be for kids that have physical issues, like they have to use a wheelchair for example.
every kid that is in the special needs program for cheergyms.com is so amazing because they learn to work around their obstacles and accomplish so much. Jodi, this team will be great and I think I can speak for all parents, when i say that we support you 110% and I know this team will be amazing.
Hey Jodi it's audra from college team last year, I think it's absolutly wonderful that you are doing this. I would LOVE to help!!!!!! If there is anything I could do please let me know. I would probably have to be staff their but if you need help I would love to work at pyramids. I have worked with special needs before and it can be a handful, but it is sooooo rewarding. Hope to hear from you soon!
