8 yr old cheerleader - Severe Cancer

Good morning EG Cheer World,

I hope this message is sent to you in good health.

This is Jill Norgaard. I am currently a small business owner in Elk Grove and a long time EG resident.

The reason why I am writing you...I wanted to let you know that Sydney Stevens of Elk Grove is in the hospital with a Wilm's tumor (Cancer) on her left kidney. The tumor is the size of a baseball and the cells of this tumor have migrated up the main vein of her system and have also attached themselves to her lungs.

There are four stages/levels in the cancer world...1 being the minimum and 4 being the worst. Sydney is at the level 4 stage.

Sydney Stevens is currently 8 years old and has been extremely active in the local activities in Elk Grove. She just finished a season of softball with the EGGSL, she planned on playing her 4th season of soccer, and is a year round cheerleader with University Cheer Force.

We haven't heard any details, as of yet, that would let us know what type of treatment will be given to Sydney...we are praying that something can be done.

I am hoping that you can get this word out to everyone in the large Cheerleading community.

Sydney loved softball, soccer, and cheerleading. She was such an active girl and now has been confined to a hospital bed.

The latest is that Fidelity National Title is going to be opening a bank account (trust fund) I believe at Stockmann's bank in elk Grove. I should have more details later today or first thing tomorrow.

We need to get the community involved in this effort. The Steven's don't have a large financial nest egg to allow them time to stay home/in the hospital with Sydney for this long up hill battle. Our cheerleading company has a Phantom's fireworks booth (near Elk Grove High School) and we will be donating a large portion on the proceeds to the Stevens. We are doing what we can to pull together other fundraisers but we really need the community help with this effort.

Please let us know what you can do on your end...or let me know of some names and emails of people that can help us.

Thanks! Jill Norgaard - universitycheerforce@yahoo.com 916-688-1218

Please update us as soon as you have anything as far as the trust fund as I would like to help! I can't imagine something like that happening to one of my children and I know I don't have the financial means to drop everything and stay with my child, so I would like to help with whatever I can. I will keep her in my prayers!

Love and prayers to Sydney and her family. My son's classmate has been fighting cancer for the past 2 years she is now 10 so this hits really close to home for my family as we have watched how devistating a child diagnosed with any type of cancer can be. Please keep us posted on anything we can do to help. I am putting this story out to my prayer group via e-mail. Has anyone asked any of the local papers to print this?
God Bless,

My heart breaks upon hearing this news. I found out from a post on our members message board and came here to post. A co-workers child lives with cancer and I see the toll it has taken on him when times are trying. Several of my family members have also battled cancer. My prayers are with Sydney and her family. I will definately email to my friends and family. At the least, it will generate another strong prayer circle. I will also do what I personally can to assist. If you find you need any help during fundraising events wanting an extra organized cheerful hand to help, please dont hesistate to call. Ask for Tera. I can be reached by contacting Cheer Odyssey. If you need a bigger group, we have a lot of willing people with generous hearts who may also volunteer. God bless!

Hello all you wonderful people in Elk Grove!

I have received several emails from many of you wanting to help with Sydney's fundraising efforts.

In the next several weeks we (The Parents of UNIVERSITY CHEER FORCE) will be trying to pull together several fundraisers that will help raise money to assist the Stevens' through this time of need.

The first fundraiser will be our Fireworks stand. University Cheer Force will be manning a booth near Elk Grove High School. This booth is located in the same parking lot as New York Pizza, Moon Light Cleaners, and many other small located businesses. In addition, we will be just acrossed the side street of Big-o-Tires. We will do our best to have the UNIVERSITY CHEER FORCE sign displayed on the Phantom Fireworks Booth.

Please consider buying your fireworks at our booth this season. It would be the world to all of us if you did.

University Cheer Force is a small cheerleading team. We only have a consistant few volunteers that will be available to man the booth this time around (I will probably be living in the booth). If you are willing to donate a few hours of your time to work in the booth...that would be fantastic! Please call our cheer gym (688-1218) on Monday, June 26th between the hours of 6:00 - 8:30...I will be in the office and will schedule your booth time.

Other ways you can contribute....

1. Cash Donations - send to the Trust Fund account
2. Gift cards for the basics - Groceries, Gas, etc (send to: University Cheer Force, PO Box 1734, Elk Grove, CA 95759)
3. Service cards - daycare, lawn care, housekeeping, etc
4. Give Blood - Sydney will need several blood transfusions then next 7 to 8 months...this would be a huge savings for the family.

I will try to update this site with the next fundraiser and events.

Please keep Sydney in your prayers!

Thanks so much for all your continued help!

Hi all!

University Cheer Force just completed our first carwash today. The response was outstanding. Our efforts took in at least a $1000.00 today. This will help Sydney and her family through some of the first steps through her long march with her battle of cancer.

Please keep your emails and thoughts about Sydney coming. She so loves to hear that other cheerleaders take time out of their day to think about Sydney.

A special thanks must go out to the NCP AllStars. I just received a wonderful email from this club. They are conducting 3 fundraisers within the next 3 months and some of the proceeds will be deposited into Sydney's trust account.

Gosh! The world is going to be Sydney through this extremely difficult time....I just know it!

Keep Sydney in your prayers.
Jill

First of all, I just want to say a HUGE thank you to EVERYONE who has acted on our behalf.
Cheer Odyssey I can not praise you enough, we have always admired your spirit at competitions and now am glad to be embraced as part of your team.

NCP All Stars, thanks in advance for your efforts on our behalf, we hope to meet some of you soon.

UCF, Jill Norgaard and Janon Magnuson especially have been phenomenal, they even donated funds to us so that Paige (Sydney's 7 year old sister) could continue to cheer this year - look for her at competition, she is the cute strawberry blond flyer - check out those dimples ;)

We are in for a long hard road but we know that because of people like all of you that we will make it through stronger and better than before. BIGGER, BETTER, the BEST by FAR - Sydney was part of our Grand National Championship youth team last year.

Unfortunatly there are some out there whose motives aren't as heart felt as yours some are even neighboring gyms and because of them, I am now asking that folks get approval before having access to Sydney's website. It is an easy process, you can try logging onto it and it will give you directions or if you would like to e-mail me directly at sa_stevens@yahoo.com I can send you an invite. Sad, that this is the world we live in but some people (B. Diddy) take COMPETITIVE to the worst level and can't even abide by the wishes of a mother whose daughter is BATTLING cancer.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT

Hi everyone!

Keep praying for Sydney...it's working! Sydney's kidney tumor has skrunk half it's beginning size and the nodules on her lungs are no longer detectable on the CT scan. This is all because she has responded so well to her chemotheraphy treatments.

She is just two weeks away from her required surgery. We have lot's of high hopes for Sydney...and we hope you will keep her in your thoughts and prayers in the up and coming weeks.

Jill

Hey cheer world-
Thank you all for your support and prayers during what had been a whirlwind time for our family. I wanted to give you all an update:

Sydney has responded well to the chemo and after two months of treatment the tumor has shrank enough that the doctors feel comfortable going in and trying to remove it. The tumor has also regressed down the vena cava which makes the surgery safer. Anyway, please continue to pray for us and follow our story.

Sydney's surgery is on 9/6 and she will be in the hospital at least a week, maybe two. If you get a chance, check out her website www.carepages.com page name is SydneyS - I will have to approve you as a visitor but she LOVES hearing from fellow cheerleaders and is struggling the most with the fact that she can't cheer especially since her sister (Paige) just finished up choreography camp and they had visions of flying together this year. :(.

Cheer Odyssey - you guys are awesome.. thanks for all you have done to help us and our gym.

Keep those prayers coming

Stephanie Stevens
