So Airborne, Cheer Xplosion, and I thought that Cheer Divas were going (am I wrong)? Are there any others?? I wonder if any high school teams are going.
I know that Cheergyms has the annoucement for Summer Jam posted on thier website, but do they notify other gyms, i.e. email.... Just wondering how else you get the word out to everyone.
I think it might be too early in the season for some, just a guess on my part. Reading about it, it sounds like fun, but during that time organizations are gearing up for their real competitions, so maybe that's why others don't sign up for it. Also the cost, I'm sure they have to figure it all in. Some have no room for an additional cost for something that's just a low key fun thing to attend. Especially if it means taking the place of something else. But it does sound fun!
It's fun, but it's not free. If it were, we'd all go!
And I think the post was trying to say if you had to choose, cost-wise, between summer jam and a real competition, while we're all in it for the fun, the whole point is to compete (the name of the sport is competitive cheerleading afterall). I wish we were going, I like the concept of everyone doing stuff to the same music. Maybe some year we'll be able to make it.
Summer Jam always looks like fun but with fees being like they are, you have to pick and choose what you can afford. Also Summer time is a huge time for vacations so you never can have a full team.
We went to summer jam for the first time last year. It was fun seeing how different teams translated the music. You don't need a full team. Not everyone has to be in each section. Another thought: Since everyone loves to compete and it can be a long time from the beginning of the season to your first competition in fall, this is a great way to motivate your teams. So, in other words a great way to break up the long summer and early fall.
I took at look at the info on Summer Jam and didn't realize the cost. It's $25.00 per participent. If you register after July 15th it's and extra $10.00 per participent. That can get expensive. If you have 25 kids on one team that's $625.00. I don't think it's excessive but when your trying to keep costs down it's an added expense some gyms don't want to ask the parents for. Oh well wish we were going. Maybe next year.
I think there is no doubt it's a fun thing to do, and it's a nice way to do something early in the season instead of waiting until October when competitions start. It's just the expense that probably stops most organizations from signing up; as it is they're trying to make the season as affordable as possible. It's hard to ask parents to pitch in another $25 to $35, and then there is the cost of admission to watch your kids (unless that's free)?
I personally think that its also depends on the way that each program uses their summer months. Some want to focus on improving skills and the time that is taken away from working on those skills to putting together a couple mini routines won't exactly be beneficial to the team. Sure it would be fun, and sounds like a good experience to compete so early on and get a feel for it...but if it is taking the place of weeks of valuable time than it might not be the best option for all teams. It just depends on what each gym wants to focus on during the summer. That and the added cost (not expensive as far as competitions go but still a cost) could be a big reason why some gyms shy away from it.
Maybe if Summer Jam was $150.00 per team like USA, then it would be a possibility and if it was advertised in January instead of March/April. Those things might effect summer jam 2007.
