why is it that jamz nationals at the orleans in vegas and jamfest nationals in long beach are so pitch dark inside the venue? i don't recall any of our regionals being like that...... UOP, San Jose Event Center, Sacramento Convention Center, San Jose Convention Center...... i hate it when it is dark- can't read the program, etc.
I think also it gives the routines more of a performance look, with the spotlight on them and all. Some of the well lit regionals that have the spring floor in the middle of a floor look so informal and amateurish to me, nothing special about them at all. Our favorite competitions have always been the ones where they're on stage under spotlights... it makes them feel special. Just my take on it.
personally... i cant stand it. its SO HARD to see... the first time i competed under lights i was blinded in the stunts. but i guess I do like the lights a little bit because it does give it more of a PERFORMANCE look.
A small flashlight is a good idea to read your program...
When performers on stage can see their audience, they sometimes lose concentration, and their performances may end up not being up to par. some performers love it, some don`t.
As an audience, ever go to see a stage play,? As an audience, you concentrate on what is in the lights, if the audience lights were on , you would not concentrate on the stage so intently, and be distracted elsewhere at times.
My other half loved it cause he had been up 24 hours from work the previous night, couldn't come home to sleep so he got to "nap" inbetween our Mini Novice and Senior Advanced. Trust me, he enjoyed the dark...
I think that when it is so dark around the stage, it helps me concentrate. Because I can't see all of the people in the audience staring at you, I dont feel as much presure as I normally do, and it helps me concentrate and stick everything. Though I do like being able to see the crowd too, because who DOESNT like to be the center of attention!lol
I love it when id dark because the teams look more flashy and it seem more professional.I think the competion company that does the best job is Jamfest or american championships.*\o/*
