Last year I believe it was ten. All teams that won a bid outright did not have to do prelims and the at large bids had to compete & meet a certain score to be in finals. There are going to be more teams this year so i'm not sure how many they are going to take this year.
I was wondering the same thing. Almost everyone made it to finals last year. Will there be a score cutoff or a percentage of teams cutoff to make it to finals? This year will be a much bigger competition, so I'm wondering if they are going to try to slim it down more in prelims?
I hope that there is some sort of cut off other wise this is just going to be like another open national. And I think it might be a good idea to change the rules next year on the paid bids. Some teams have paid bids that have been consistantly beaten by other teams because they attended nationals that teams that got first place already had the paid bid.
I think they might want to start some type of scoring process where you would have to build up so many points from your combined comp scores to qualify for a paid or partial bid.
This is not meant to slander any certain programs I would just like to see teams of the same calibur getting those paid and partial bids. Let the unpaid bids go to the teams that have the talent but just need a little more time to step it up to those levels.
I repeat this is not intended to slander in any way shape or form ANY allstar progam. These are just my thoughts on finals at worlds.
Before you all go crazy on me I already know that this is not an open national because these teams had to work hard to qualify for their bids but I think if they dont have some sort of cut off (prelims) then it might as well be an open national.
