All Star vs. Pop Warner

Entering the floor

Have you noticed at a Pop Warner competition, when a team enters the floor, they have so much excitement that they get the crowd pumped up.

Dancers when they enter the floor they have a specific way they walk, or enter as a group, sometimes very robotic to match their theme.

All stars when they enter the floor, you can barely see a smile, no excitement, sometimes they don't even know where they are supposed to go and end up walking to the wrong side of the floor and then scramble to get to their correct spot. Why is this? Why don't coaches "choreograph" how a team makes their "first impression"?

Just wondering

Your out of your mind . Allstars always go on stage showing spirit. My first impression of a pop warner team is " Oh god how much longer do we have to suffer through all this pain. "

lol cheerjunkie!!!! that's exactly what I'm thinking when I for some reason have to watch a pop warner team. the only thing that would make it worse is if I had to ride a stairmaster the whole time and their music was a full Kelly Clarkston Mix!

I guess I wasn't clear. I am not talking about the performance, I agree that pop warner is worse than a route canal without novacain, I am talking about the way the team walks on to the mat. Watch a video of an All Star team, there doesn't seem to be any enthusiasm and I was just wondering why.

Short Answer - There's nothing worse than seeing cheerleaders cheer like there's a game in front of them when there's not.

Shorter Answer - The judges couldn't care less about your enterance.

I am thinking it's also because most Pop Warner teams are only doing this for 3 to 5 months, most of them are very inexperienced which means the parents are still pretty much in awe of their little Sally doing a cartwheel, (I said Most, not all) and also, the parents and kids don't have to do this allllllllllllllllllll yeaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

Yep, I scream my head off. Yep my kids shows some enthusiasm. But she's worried about doing her triple toe back and doubles out of her scale & scorp.... not her cartwheel.

Don't get me wrong.... yes she's more experienced. But with more experience comes A LOT more stress....

As for the dancers, that I don't know anything about. My kid isn't a dancer.

Thank you another coach, now it make perfect sense and I also now understand about the stress level. This is my daughter first year as an All Star, she is also a dancer. I think between Pop Warner, All Stars, and Dancing I like All Stars the best. They are much more fun to watch.

I have to agree with the fact that judges don't care how you enter. Usually the teams are so excited by the end that they jump around and rally. I think that all star cheerleaders should at least smile though. I see some teams that walk on with scared looks but once the music comes on they smile. Or as they're coming out they have a frown and than smile when they come out to the floor. It just seems so fake. There is also a rule that teams are not suppose to choreograph their entrance but I see a lot of teams that do the same entrance where they walk towards the floor with their arms by their sides (in a line) and right before they hit the floor they slap their hands on their sides, put their heads down and than put their hands on their hips and heads up (all in a role off). To me thats a choreographed entrance. It gets old after seeing so many teams doing it.

When entering the floor, all my daughter can think about is the routine and focus on that...she worries that she won't have enough air because the routine is so technical....save it for the performance!

I think its a matter of opinion and where you compete. Lots of judges comment on clean entrances and like you to just set when you go out there. Yes its not part of your scoresheet as a specific box, but it sure helps your overall impression if you have a good entrance.

Of course if you come out with an angry face you're going to set a weird mood. BUT coming out with a choreographed entrance is against the rules and I think judges need to follow their own rule as so do the other gyms out there. If they're going to come out and do something choreographed than the time needs to start then!
"they walk towards the floor with their arms by their sides (in a line) and right before they hit the floor they slap their hands on their sides, put their heads down and than put their hands on their hips and heads up (all in a role off)."
This is breaking the rules. No team just does this because they feel like it, they practice it until everyone gets it to the point of making it look good. Yes teams practice entering but trying to make it look insync is more than just trying to get it right, its trying to perfect it. Coaches, gyms and even judges need to stop bending the rules. Otherwise, dont make it a rule!
