soo this year my prom just happens to land on the day of a competion and its not local either....its down south soo would you choose to go to prom or go to ur competition.....??? PLEASE HELP!!!
if you are a senior and this is your senior prom....go to prom. if you don't you'll regret it for the rest of your life. if you are a junior and it's your first prom...skip it junior prom stinks anyways.
Honestly prom isnt that much to look forward to Junior or Senior...I think its overrated but everyone else likes it...but i would go to the Comp.! for sure but like everyone else said its not our prom
To me prom is just like homecoming but with a fancier dress. I know that you may feel left out if you do not go but consider the repercusions of your team if you do not attend. By the way I did not think that our comp schedule was volunteer. I believe it to be mandatory. Sometimes you have to give up things to be part of something greater!
Not knowing who you are, I'm going to give you an answer as if you are someone who cheers for me. I wouldn't be surprised if every coach out there feels the same way. I'm not telling you what to do, but you asked for opinions and I'm giving you mine. Take it for what its worth.
You made a choice at the beginning of your season to commit to your team for an entire season. If going to your prom is something you're considering, you should quit now, but it would have been wiser to not even join your team.
proms not that exciting..and i agree it is like homecoming just with fancier dresses and you ride in a limo..but really you can do that for fun if you really wanted to..soo i would go to the competition cause you're team also depends on you..but thats just what i think=)
now if I were you... god help you... i would bring the prom to you.. haha no seriously. bring a date down with you. someone who knows you well. and do something fun down there.
i remember watching on tv last year (before i wasnt interested in cheer, but it was on tv so i watched it, it was cool) and a gurl missed prom for a competition so she brought her boyfriend with her and went to disneyworld with him.. it sounded cool.
but this is just my opinion. i went to prom my freshman year. i think its overrated. but hey its just my opinion. yeah prom is once in a lifetime, but who knows prom could have stunk while you were partying away down south
I MISSED PROM AND DONT REGRET IT A SINGLE DAY. You have your whole life to go out and get dressed up. These people will be fat and bald in 10 years and won't matter to you a lick. Your team will. Get good grades and keep with your commitment. That's what is important in life.
I go to a 'different' school, I guess you could say... My Homecoming is a month later than everyone elses... I start school a month earlier... My Junior and Senior Proms are one in the same dance... My winter formal is in January and not December... I have 7 period classes... I dont have off campus lunch... If not everything about my school is different than yours, most of it probably is. In My case, Cheer ends and is over by the time Prom comes. Last Year my prom was May 20th... a month and a half after my last competition of the season!
Let's take my homecoming for this situation though. My Homecoming is on a Thursday night (I told you... 'DIFFERENT'.... lol). It is November 10th. I practice on Thursdays. That thursday is also the last practice before the AB Competition in Sacramento. Will I be going? No. I made a commitment to my team to be there no matter what.
TRUST ME, If I am throwing up, with a temperature of 105, having day dreams about playing hawaiian basketball for my school and being dillusional, coughing, sweating, and becoming dehydrated, I will be there for cheer. I competed like this once.
I'm surprised it's even an option. You can't let your team down. If you decide to go to the Prom, you need to be replaced now so the team has time to work with someone else, right? Sometimes life forces you to make tough decisions, but in this case, your decision impacts others as well, so you gotta do the right thing. Right?
Definitely a big decision for you to make but let me give you my wise old woman's opinion. Prom may seem like a big deal right now to you but once it passes it will be a distant memory. I'm sure cheerleading is a integral part of your life and you have made many other social sacrifices for cheerleading. You will feel much better about yourself in the long run if you fulfill the commitment you made to yourself and your team if you attend the competition. Just think you still have your wedding to look forward to and isn't that the ULTIMATE Prom??
Honestly, prom isn't nearly as exciting as going to nationals. (I'm assuming since it's far away its probably some really competition or its nationals) You spend tons of money onTHE dress, you do your hair, your makeup, you think its going to be this awesome night and its really not a lot different from any other formal you've been to.... I'm sure you have friends on your team who will have proms at their schools before and after yours, and you'd have a blast at theirs....you and your date pair up with a teammate and their date so you can get tickets and get in, then party the night away. You might not know a lot of people, but you'll have a lot of fun hanging out with your teammates and you won't have that guilt on your prom night about how your team is doing and if they would have done better had you been there!!
well since i've never even been to a high school dance, let alone prom, I'm not sure. I would have to decide when the time came, but my advice for now would be, think, would you rather hang out with a bunch of people, only some of which you know, whereing pretty uncomfortable clothes and not being able to move in fright that your hair might fall down, or hang out with a bunch of people you have come to see as practically call your family away from home, in semi-comfortable skirts, sneakers, and with your hair in a ponytail doing what you love best(or atleast what i love best), CHEERING!?(I mean you get to dance at both!) I know i might not help because prom seems like a really big deal but, if you think a bout it this way, the choice is pretty obvious i think:)
