Where did all the Jr5 teams go?

Where did all the Jr5 teams go, and will there be any this next season?  I know since usasf X'd them at Worlds, did everyone get discouraged or what?

There are other divisions for that skill: Junior 5 (x 2) and Senior 5 (x 6)

isn't the whole point of senior open 5 is that they can't do doubles? therefore making it a stepping stone between level 4 and level 5.

if you want your team to compete doubles then you just go senior 5.

I think for some gyms it is a growth year. The kids with doubles who are over 12 are being moved to senior teams and those not old enough, well there may not have been enough to form a junior team. I think that it tends to go in waves. With the talent and age combination ebbing and flowing.

Well, the sr 5 thing is great for kids that are older, but we have kids with doubles that are under 12 and we would like to keep them in their age group. Some gyms have got some kids that are so tiny flying on the sr open teams it is ridiculous.  But whatever, it is what it is, to be able to compete with kids that are in the same age group would have been nice.  No matter what, it was great to see the Cali Jr 5 come out and take a title with kids that were jrs. Good Luck to all this season!

As usual the arrogance of large gyms with many level 5 teams is showing. Perhaps we should have height and weight standards before kids of any size can be put on a senior team. This argument is tiresome and old. The fact of the matter is that smaller gyms may not have enough athletes to field a jr and sr team. A gym has to work with what walks in the door. In addition parents may not be willing to drive their child to the ends of the earth to be on a jr team when a gym in a more geographically desirable location that has a lvl 5 opportunity - and the child meets all the requirements. It is coaches choice based on each individual athelete and their maturity level.

Maddie on CEA is a big size flyer she's skinny but she's tall and part of the reason she's a great flyer is because she looks beautiful in the air

Yes, so agree!

i agree with this. while i do prefer to see a bigger girl flying on senior teams, i know this is not always reasonable. and i also know, that sometimes girls are 17 years old and 5 feet tall.(my flyer from last year)

not all gyms have tons and tons of level 5 athletes to spread out between senior and junior age teams. and the little junior girls will most likely be placed on a senior open 5 team until they are eligible for the senior age. hence, the junior 5 division dies and the senior open 5 grows, filling with both senior girls and little bitty flyers who have fulls.

and, the fact that juniors are no longer allowed at worlds may have something to do with it.

Do not base the age of the child on the size of the child. I know of one child that just aged up who is only 4' 10". Guess what she isn't going to grow any more. she looks like she is in 5th grade when in fact she is going into her sophomore year of high school. Where do you propose someone puts the itty bitty flyer? Too old to be a junior. As the parent of an itty bitty flyer I will tell you she gets tired of explaining how old she really is to people ( although I snuck her into Disneyland for free until she was 5 LOL) so can the ridiculous arguement and enjoy the show, I know I plan to.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion as to what their preference is regarding the look of a flyer, but describing someone as a dangly, skinny little girl is as offensive as describing someone as fat and stout!! Everyone has a different body type and smaller girls with a slim build would surely take offense to that comment. All gyms don't have the luxury of choosing from a ton of level 5 athletes.. They make due with what they have and they do their best.

Will there be any jr5 teams in the California, Nevada, Arizona areas?  I know many gyms who had level Jr5 last year won't have them this year as stated on this site, will there be any?  Such as SCV?

Well I don't know if gyms are starting to expand into Sr. Open 5, or if we are going to start seeing more Jr. 4 and Jr. 3 teams that are just packed full of talent.  But I can tell you where the Jr. 5 teams aren't going and that's to Worlds.  I have heard that Jr. 5 will no longer be a division at Worlds.
