The USASF Parent Action Committee is looking for 2-3 new members for the new year. For an application, please send me a message here or email me at bill.presson@gmail.com. Please keep in mind that we will need a recommendation from the owner of your current gym sent directly to us.
The mission of the USASF Parent Action Committee (PAC) is to promote and improve the communication between the parents, coaches, gym owners, athletes, event producers and USASF.
To accomplish that mission, we have lots of leeway. Obviously, we are not a rule making entity. However, it gives us the ability to make suggestions, recommendations, etc. in any area where we see a need. Obviously, increased transparency in ALL areas is a huge part of this.
Technically, this will be the third year of the PAC. The first year was spent trying to convince coaches, gym owners and event producers that we weren't an evil plot.
The second year, we produced the Money Saving Recommendations for the All Star Community and Cheer Parents 101. Both of them were very well received. We also worked very hard on creating some "Insider's Guides" to various world's bid competitions, but since we couldn't do one for every bid competition, we had to put that on hold. We do plan to adapt this for The Cheerleading Worlds for 2011.
For the upcoming year, we will be working on a few of the following targeted areas:
1. Continue to increase parents cheer knowledge 2. Encourage coaching continuation education, drug testing and credentialing 3. Encourage improved judging consistency, standardization and certification 4. Encourage publication of score sheets after each competition 5. Encourage improved worlds bid transparency 6. Help make cheer more affordable and gyms more profitable 7. Encourage improved safety of athletes at competitions and practice 8. Encourage scoresheet standardization 9. Encourage improved/standardized safety procedures for events (warm ups, EMS, etc)
Obviously, we can't do everything, so we will focus on the areas where we can add the most value. Also, as I mentioned before, we are not a rule making entity. We work on the communication side to help ensure everyone has the information needed to answer questions and make reasonable decisions.
The time commitment is variable, but we can probably anticipate several hours a month.
