Okay so I am listening to these 3 individuals and most of it sounds like "sour grapes"

I can sympathize with some of what they are saying but conspiracy theories always have a kernel of truth to them.  I have been a gym owner since 1997 and while I do wax nostalgic about the good old days, realistically we have gained much with most of the changes that Varsity has promoted.

Lets not forget that the level system was not USASF but it took one organization to take the best of the NACCC rules and levels and the best of USASF's rules and levels system (Originally CheerSports level play system).  This has made our sport safer and pushed some dagerous and uneducated people out.

We are all entitled to our opinions.  The more we talk and express ourselves the more TRUTH that will come out.

Competitions -  In the end we have the power of the dollar and the event producers are subject to that.   They only have the power that WE give them

Varsity -  I agree they have too much of a monopoly HOWEVER with every company they have purcahsed mostly they have kept their own individual identity.

WORLDS -  It is an important event as long as it remains HARD to get to.  I am very happy that they have revamped the Juniors attendance and I think that is an indication that it is not all about the money it is about proper progression for our atheles.  The ultimate prize in a sport should never be accessable to the youngest particapants look at any other skilled sport they have championships along the way but the World Title is won by the vetrans of the sport.

Uniforms -  Totaly TOTALY agree with them.  First because the people proposing the uniform have such bad taste!  Did you see the Team USA uniform YUCK!!!

Now if Usasf (Varsity) was talking about regulating a uniform that is appropriate for the SAFE execution of the skills involved with our sport then maybe.  But they want everyone to wear the uniform that my daughter has to wear for her Lutheran HS Cheer team :(  Skirts to your knees and full tops are fine for jumping around on a sidline with pom poms (YUCK!!!)  but they are not condusive to gymnastics or stunting.
Swimmers wear Swim suits
Gymnasts wear leotards
Volleyball players wear booty shorts
Runners wear tight shorts

All these are examples of clothing matching the activity.  Small, Formfitting uniforms are a saftey requirement.

OK Very long I know Sorry just had to get it all out.

I'm just surprised that this hasn't generated more discussions. Whether you agree or disagree, this is an excellent time to discuss issues.

I listened to it all, and I'm not exactly sure where to start.

One of the things that really struck a chord with me was when they were talking about how small gyms can't succeed in a cheer world that is obsessed with level 5s.  Any gym that is not producing a level 5 team is essentially training their kids to leave the gym.  Although people will try to disagree with this, it's completely true.  We are a gym that has no intention of ever having a level 5 team, and it has become hard to even have a decent level 4 team because of it.   A true level 4 should have the ability to become a level 5 fairly easily, as the only difference now is really a full.  If these girls are good enough to have a standing tuck and layout, and are even starting on fulls, they are leaving to go get it at a gym that will put them on a level 5 team.

I have no doubt that a small gym can succeed and get kids in the door, and there are many programs that do a great job with lower level teams; I can name quite a few off the top of my head... But when a cheerleader's goal is worlds, there is not going to be room for these smaller gyms to really become anything but feeder programs for larger gyms.  The big gyms get bigger, and smaller gyms are going to either close down or be forced into mergers just to stay alive.  Essentially, it has already started to happen, especially in California.

There were many other things to comment on, but this is the one that is hitting a little closer to home than some of the other topics, and I would like to hear other opinions on it.

Monopoly and Money - this topic seem to hit a nerve with these individuals.

I understand that there are times (especially now with this wonderful economy) when people tend to get anger when they see others make money. Lets face it everyone. If you own a business you are out to make money. And the more money the better. I don't believe that there isn't a business person out there that says "I made enough money this year, so we are going to close our doors until next year."

Capitalism is a great thing. Everyone has choices. And the really cool thing about capitalism is that another company can grow and become the big dog (like Varsity).

I don't want this come out in a negative light and that is not the intent of this next statement. If these voices spend so much time and energy bashing Varsity and USASF, they will not have the energy to become success themselves. Instead these individuals should be brainstorming to come up with a new solution, a new direction, and set the stage for what cheerleading may look like in 5 to 10 years.

Right now these voices have shared "the problem" if there is an actual problem. Great but now what are they going to do to find a solution? Leave it for someone else to fix to their likings? And then get pissed off because that someone else walked away with all the $$$$ and they are left with the invoices?

Voices turn your energy into something more positive and get people to buy into your concepts maybe then you will be able to run cheer the way you see fit. Until then Varsity and USASF will keep on rolling and rolling in the big dollars.
