So it seems like many gyms (especially in Southern Cal) have merged in the past year. But the trend doesn't seem to have spread to Northern California (I can only think of one merger while more than that have opted to close doors). Do you think it is only a matter or time before gyms in Northern Cal start merging? If so which gyms would you like to see join forces and why? What would be the "dream" combination?
I would like to see Cheergyms and Power merge. They both have that clean transitional style with lots of creativity.
Both gyms also seem great at putting out information to their parents by updating their website....cough cough....(some gyms could learn a lot from this)
They also both have fun videos to watch on their website. The 14 years going strong on cheergyms and the summer video on Powers.
(I am jealous that my gym has not done this..Do you think they would like a psycho mom come and video during practices? HeHe)
I think that is best as well, if they merge then on certain levels where would the competiton be? There are only certain teams that can even touch Power and Cheer Gyms on a competitive level.
Mergers can be to keep a business open due our horrible economy or to make the teams stronger as it seems like Socal has done the past two or three seasons BUT it may in the end not work out if you have two owners who are use to having their "own" gym now have to compromise on certain business decsions. I think mergers can work if they are well thought out and if the clients (meaning the parents since they are the ones who pay for the hefty cheer dues) are kept in the loop and things are not so secretive like there is something to hide (not at all saying they should have say in how the business is run or need to know everything about the business) but it's the secrecy that seems with parents that has seemed to lead to problems when they were not given all of the details upfront so they could make and informed decision on which team to place their child on.
One of the main reasons we chose not to do AS this year and wait one more year was because we needed more time to look into what was true and what wasn't. One gym we were considering for our daughter told us a great deal to reel us in, but when we started looking at things more closely most if not all of what we were told was a flat out lie. So that gym is absolutely on the no list for next season when she signs up.
There was more than one merger in Norcal there have been a few and I wish them all the best of luck. I know one in particular that lost kids this season due to the merger just not working out well in the first year and parents being really unhappy. A number of those girls chose to go to "smaller" gyms that didn't have all the drama involved with merging and business parnters not being on the same page.
I don't know if now merging would help bring gyms out of the red in Norcal so maybe that is why certain ones have chosen to close. Another reason is maybe they took on larger gyms then they really needed and got into trouble that way. Two gyms come to mind that did that and have closed or are in the process of closing. When enrollment was low they needed to rent to space to cover expenses but that ended up not working out either as they were still in the red.
There aren't any gyms that come to mind in Norcal that I think "oh that would be GREAT if those two gyms merged." I kind of like the smaller gyms that can devote more time to their athletes instead of saying we have 200 cheerleaders in our gym and don't really know them well. JMO
I love the fact that there are more gyms to choose from! But in this economy, that just might not be a possiblilty for some!!! My best wishes to every single gym, whether they have merged, are new or old! Cheer is such a wonderful sport and our family has gained TREMENDOUSLY because of it!!!!

I LOVEEEE both gyms separately. I'm sure they'll be amazing, 2 great gyms with a lot of talent but I'll definitely miss them separately. I love more competition, not less.
Okay, 1. No no no to chower. Power = amazing! Cheergyms = amazing! .... And things should stay amazing, but separate. 2. Merging is just how people are choosing to deal with the tough economy. Whether or not its the best idea is for finding out. 3. OC mom!!!! Ahhhhh (that was the hot tamale train scream from Mary Murphy on so you think you can dance.... LOL) !!!! Where have you been girlfriend. PM me. I must talk, must talk, must talk!! I've missed you so much! 4. Lastly, EE & celebrity....!?!?! Holy moly. Heaven!

I wish the gyms in Elk Grove would merge into one. This would really make for some strong competition. We have way tooo many All Star Gyms in Elk Grove. Soon as Royals closed their doors Fever opened theirs and just across the way from EDGE. This does not make any sense. I thought fever was from the Franklin area? Now there are 3 gyms all within walking from eachother in this economic drought it would seem these gyms would struggle to stay on top. However they all seem to be moving along.

How are each of the three gyms doing so far?...Just asking out of curiousity.
