This is a site to discuss anything and everything. I'm bringing up this point because I ran into a cheer parent that is currently with a gym that has recently changed ownership. Her concern is the new owner has no experience, no history, has no idea of who is who or what is what. The coaches have stayed on, but are concerned because she is bringing additional staff that has little to no experience. She has an "open checkbook".
The question I have is....... would a gym that has been relatively successful, want experience coaches or an owner that has unlimited money and no experience? She pays for kids that has no money, but charges those that can pay.
I think you have a personal problem with one of the new owners If you check out your members information you are posing as one of the owners (with the open checkbook) That tells me you have a personal problem and don't know anything about this person , except maybe your mad that she has a open checkbook and you don't.
Maybe she doing it for the kids, whats wrong with helping out someone that can't afford it. You need to get over it and see what the new OWNERS (2) do.
I do not believe there is a single gym out there that someone isn't in their gym for FREE. Gym owners will "cut" breaks for cheerleaders all the time. It could be a huge break or a small one. It's something the gym owners do. Don't know to many gym owners that are in the fortune 500 these days and this very well may be the reason.
It's definitely worth it to give to one or two individuals to make sure that an entire team has a successful season. The end result is priceless.

Not only does it help the enitre team, but it can also help the cheerleader who is getting the help from the gym. I know in my old gym we used to cut breaks to the kids who needed the help, especially if it helped them keep their grades up, or helped them to stay on the "right track"
I don't think these new gym owners would go into business without having done some reasearch on the sport. We all got started somewhere right?? Not all of us were born cheer gods, so I wish them luck!!
The other thing to think about....a gym might have owners that are inexperienced in running a cheer gym, but they might have experience in running a business. The key is that there is an experienced coaching staff to make the decisions in that area. And....if a gym cuts a break or offers "scholarships" to certain girls it is no one elses business...to a paying parent it might be frustrating, but if it bothers you that much change gyms. But my guess is you will find this practice at numerous gyms. Look at the programs that offer free tutition to boys....is that fair? Just a thought.
I think I know who this post is about because this has recently happened to the gym my niece is at. Frequently I help out my sister and bring her to practice and attend her competitions.
I think the original poster wasn't concerned about freebies but about an owner with an open checkbook and no experience in the world of cheer, dance and gymnastics AND has no business experience. In fact our new owner doesn't work, her husband gives her everything, this I know for a fact because she has proudly told me this herself!!!! (good for her)
I have since discovered this new owner has attempted to start two other all-star programs over the past two years which both failed. The staff quit and not many kids.
Yes the the coaches have stayed on, but now she is making changes and decisions that if one had experience probabably would not do. My niece has been in all-stars for a long time. In fact, the only reason the kids that have stayed is because of the coaches. Bringing in new staff is fine, but the old coaches are not being recognized for their experienced skills and input.
I hope our coaches find another gym to coach at and we would follow them in a heartbeat. Otherwise we plan to start looking for a gym and gym staff and gym owner that can provide experince, SAFE, well run organized business and something to offer the kids other than opencheck book bragging. Money is not everything. WE are sad to see the old owners leave but understand.

you know the more and more i think about it i am starting to think a checkbook owner might be the way to go with the current economy. looks like a couple of gyms were just holding on by threads this season. regardless of win records grandchamps doesnt pay any more than 8th place. those program awards are a jk. we pay 10000 for a comp you win 1000. my point is think i would rather be with smart business people than end up mid season having to drive or practice in the grass. when you think about its an investment by sept you have all your comp fees paid uniform, choreography, practice stuff and most of your major expenses paid already. i would want a smart business person or deep pockets so i dont end up looking for a new gym then.

What do you think will happen?

Thanks,

if this is the gym that i believe we are talking about, then let me say this. i personally know the new owner of this gym, and i can tell you that she is one of the most amazing people i have met in my life. i remember when i was on the senior team at this gym, and she was always there for me. she gave me a place to finish up my homework, she made sure i did well in school, and she gave me a place to stay when it was rough at home. so before we start questioning her ability to run a successful gym, how about we give her thanks for what she is doing as a person. she is truly in it for the kids, and i have no doubt in my mind that she has what it takes to keep a tradition running. :]
I agree that the new owners are wonderful people. It sucks that people will try to discredit them simply to recruit for another program with no concern for that reality of the situation! Ilove being able to talk about cheer on these boards but rarely come on anymore due to them being used as advertisements and recruitment tools. Good luck to the new owners of VCSC Things weren't working out there as they were, so any changes deserve support as they are for the kids.
Christopher it is NOT the gym you are thinking about. She is NOT married this is another gym. You are jumping to conclusion. They are speaking about another GYM NOT EVEn in the area. I am learning how rumors fly. I am not familiar with the gym they are talking about however I know it is not the gym you are speaking about

This is NOT about your old gym this is about a gym in another area in California.

let me know where the gym is. I can use a free season of cheer or even someone to pay for me to complete for even a month or two. Or what would be really cool is to have someone allow me to cheer on their teams, pay for comp fees and fly me to all the events. Some people have all the luck.

Christopher do you think the owner of your old gym that you are defending is also this way? The reason I ask is because we are joining the gym that you THOUGHT they were talking about. Turns out it was not the same gym. We know which gym you are talking about and you must think that this gym owner has issues too otherwise you would not have commented here. Why did you think it was the same gym? now I am having second thoughts. My daughter has cheered for a short while for another team and we are making a move this coming season, BUT after reading your comment you must also feel like this gym that you are defending has some issues as well and making some bad mistakes to come to this site and make such comments to defend them. You spoke on their behalf and did not even know who the gym was. This makes me assume that this gym too has issues. Why would you think it was the same gym you are talking about? Does this mean the person you are talking about is also giving freebees to some kids? I dont want to join a gym that has cheerleading drama and it sounds like there are other gyms that have similiar drama.
Is there anywhere to cheer without cheerleading drama LOL!
You are twisting my words so much right now. If you read what I wrote, I simply said that I do not question the new owners ability to run a succesful gym. Not once did I say that I think they have problems or whatever you were rambling on about. I am no longer associated with that gym, and I am stating my optimism for them. So don't sit here and say that I said this and that, when in fact I didn't. I am sorry this has caused you to question where you want to take your daughter, and I sincerely hope you find the right gym for you and her. Good luck, and have a wonderful next season.
her name is kathy alderman. she was running coastspiritacademy, that bombed, she hooked up with cheerforce and started cheerforce west, that bombed becaue she could not get along with cf owners, cf wanted to buy vcsc but didn't have the money, so alderman got wind of it and bought it, the only kids she brought to the gym were 7 hiphop kids that ishe is paying for. she has no business behind the wheel, she doesn't have any grasp on this business and is hard to get along with. we left, others are leaving too. think we'll try another sport that is more reliable. the coaches are not happy with her and when they leave wil the kids. i don't see much of a future.

Hey christopher, if the gym and new owner you thought this was about are do amazing why did you leave to go coach at another gym in the same town?
