Am I the only one that feels this way or are parent teams just ridiculous?? How does everyone feel about that? Living thru their kids lifes or simply another division?
I love parent teams when that are really parent teams. Like really parents not just coaches and old cheerleaders. I much rather see a bunch of old poeple doing thigh stands and foward rolls and laughing my butt off. Than a bunch of coaches and old cheerleaders with a couple of parents thrown in doing bad stunts and tumbling and just looking like a bad thrown together team. l also dont really think its trying to live through their kids either. Most parent do it to get a since of what their kids go through and feel. I think its fun to watch
I think its pure fun and entertaining. Usually they practice during open gym so their kids are there already so why not bring workout close get on the floor with the other parents who are your friends and put on a show. If they were serious about it and started at the begining of the year then I would think it was too much but the ones i know of started around a month before they compete, and had around 4 or 5 practices.
Personally, I don't care for the parent teams or the parent dance offs and all the other filler stuff at competitions, but some people really love all that. I went out to get a bite to eat during the parent teams at Spirit Club, but the little that I did see the crowd seemed to really enjoy. Just not my thing, I guess, but I wouldn't go so far to say they shouldn't exist because most people seem to really like them.
I myself wouldnt do it, probably. However, I thought it was pretty entertaining at Spirit Sports. The teams were all actually pretty good. Although, not sure what program it was, but I can almost guarantee that those were not all parents. And when it's not, than it's not that fun, because you know their coaches!

I didnt look at it that way. You make a good point. I just always looked at it as they were living thru the kids.
We have been trying to get a parent team at our gym. I have NOT ever wanted to be a cheerleader, I just think it is fun for the kids to laugh at the parents and tell their parents to "tighten up" or "squeeze your butt" you get my drift. Plus it is a chance to get in shape a fun way. I love to watch the parent teams they are always good for a great laugh. Relieves some of the tension in a competition.
hmm these parent teams look like lots of fun but you have to wonder if there all parents surely some of the parents are still quite young and have cheered in the past maybe a few really do have handsprings and tucks that is so great!
I think some parent teams are way corny.. But in a good way.. Its just good clean fun.. And it helps to laugh.. It cuts the tension at stressful competitions..
I love the parent teams!!! They are fun to watch. It gives the parent a idea of what it is like for their child to compete. Since all star competitive cheer was not around for them to do they do not understand the pressure that they can feel and the joy of a good performance. This is a great way for them to understand what they are asking their child to do.
It is also a great way for parents at the gym to get to know one another and to be involved in a positive way.
I personally would never do a parent team though I do think for a work out it would be really beneficial and fun. DH used to cheer in high school and still has his tumbling, he would probably do a parent team. A few seasons ago the gym we were at tried to talk him into doing the Coed Open 6 team. he turned it down due to our daughter almost dying of embarrassment.
