I don't know what the scores are yet, but my predictions fro level 5 are Small 5- POWER and Small limited Coed 5- Cheergyms. Both of these teams were showstoppers.
i'm not sure if i looked at the right results, but I didn't see either team..I'm sure I read the wrong one...anyway, I saw cheer xplosion on a resluts sheet...I thought they weren't around anymore. Maybe I read one from last year?
The Grand Champions for ALL of level 5 was cheergyms.com All American COED !!!! Great job this weekend you guys looked AMAZING, just the performance I have been waiting to see all season!

Congrats to the All American Coed for Level 5 Grand Champs! It was too long of a day to jot down any results, but I think the other Grand Champs (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) were Power for Level 2, Fame for Level 3, and Nor Cal for Level 4. I didn't catch who the Level 1 Grand Champs were.
It was a long but entertaining day. Loved the all male team, so much fun to watch! Hated the seating, I really miss the bleachers; way too many heads in the way and people walking around. Other than that and having no schedules for sale on day 2, I thought they did a nice job. They really make the athletes feel special.
9. weather was perfect to warm up your teams outside
10. we could take pictures and video
Bad things
1. Saturday's scheduling of teams. way too late for mini and youth teams.
2. teams rotating into different divisions at the last minute - appeared that teams were running away from competition - hope they paid $$$ for last minute shifts.
3. needed to pay a $1.00 for a schedule on Saturday. I guess the $25.00 today guest pass wasn't enough for us to get a free quickly photocopied schedule
4. no schedules available, on Sunday, even if we wanted to pay for one.
5. teams were not allowed to take pictures with their trophies and banners on the stage.
6. The scoring system - teams were not penalized for things like bobbles or coming out of stunts too early, or near falls AND no rewards for difficulty. (if the team was boring and clean the team they did better than exciting and taking risks.)

I can't agree more. Results were so confusing. There needed to be points giving for tumbling and stunts that are harder. It was a real shame
Why do companies put the large screens next to the stage. If I can see the stage I'm not watching the screens and if I can't see the stage, I can't see the screens next to them either. Wouldn't it make more sense to put the screens towards the middle or back of the hall so the people in the back can see?
Ok fine, no schedules on Sunday, then at least post a few along the walls INSIDE the hall not one small one by the front door where you have to exit on the left -walk around to the right and look over people's shoulders to see a tiny printed schedule.
Now on the the teams ---
Wow, wow and triple wow, what a fun competition. There were so many good gyms attending it made for a great weekend. The other poster was right many teams brought their "A" game (too many to name). There were so many divisions that had all teams performing well and hitting all their stunts. I'm sure the scores were extremely close.
The team of the night was definitely the all male team. Everyone was on their feet during this performance. I would love to see them again.
I would like to thank you all for the many compliments that I received personally on our Senior Coed Level 4 team this weekend at Athletic Championships. We have had a lot of fun so far this season and look forward to a great ending.
Riptides, Fame, Royals, and SWAT: You are all AMAZING teams. This was the best Sr Coed 4 competition I have seen all year. All of our teams put great performances out on that floor 2 days in a row. Much respect to all of you!
I can't stand the scoring for cheerleading. I am just a parent but don't see how one team that hits a perfect routine can tak 4rth place when they were in first last week at another comp. same participants, they all hit their routines. Are the rules at every comp different? Even Ice skating has standard rules! Do judges have some type of training? I just don't get it. I must be stupid. When my 7 year old boy kicks it into the net it is a point. simple. I know judging is different but there never seems to be any parameters to the judging. One place wants to reward clean and another wants to reward difficulty. Why can't we get on the same page so everybody can compete fairly?

I can totally understand where you are coming from. We are all pushing for a standardized score sheet that all companies will use. Another thing to consider as well is that maybe this week the judges preferred another routine over your childs or the teams that they competed against were teams that they have not run into yet and they might of had a higher skill set while still sticking the routine. I am not sure what gym you are from but it is never easy to try to explain it to a child that is dissapoineted. I would approach your director or coach and ask them if their is anything your child's team can improve on. Barely anyone has a perfect winning season, you never know what could happen at the next competition. Goodluck with the rest of your season!

As Nicole said there is a push to create a universal score sheet. The committee for that is being formed as we speak by the USASF and will fully take shape next month. I do think that next year it will be up to the event producers if they wish to use the universal score sheet or not. That will probably one of the major reasons why I choose to go to an event or not next season.
You are not alone in your feelings regarding scoring. As an owner it is a nightmare to have to try and educate kids and parents on the scoring at each event week in and week out. Trying to explain that some companies DO NOT reward difficulty as much as other events like this past weekend, and some companies give major deductions for mistakes which can change the outcome as seen in several divisions this past weekend.
The Northern California All-Star Alliance will be actively pushing for the universal score sheet and its implementation. Everyone of the 13 gyms that were in attendance this past Saturday AM for our meeting were in favor of it.
I personally would like to see the scoring take some ideas from gymnastics and ice skating.
You would have your technical score which would be based on the skills done for your level and the amount of members doing those skills. That could be your start value and then deductions for execution errors would come off of that score. It rewards difficulty and cleanliness so that the team with the cleanest most difficult routine will win.
Your artistic scores would be for choreography, dance, transitions, spacing, showmanship etc
