They stated cheer related injuries have doubled since 1990. Tracy, Dir of National Council for Spirit Safety & Education, says that the numbers are accurate
Kim Archie was also on there stating there's no regulations, just guidelines.
One of the doctors gave questions to ask. One of them is "Certified by AACC?" I'm thinking they are mainly talking about high school.
The segment is over. The program thanked Fierce and stated they are USASF certified and have empleted EM Speed Safety procedures (not sure this is the exact name) which have drastically reduced the number of injuries their athletes have received. Does anyone know what that is?

Hi. Yes, our senior level 4 & 5 were featured on the show It was an experience. As for EM; it is a speed and power training center located just across the street from our gym. We have 1 or 2 instructors come in for the last 1/2 hour of every practice. They work with all the teams, helping to train them to be faster, stronger, and more injury resistant. They focus on a lot of "core" training, and conditioning.
Taken from their website:
"EM defines Functional Training as explosive speed, strength and agility movements that transfer from the training environment directly to the field of play allowing our athletes a performance advantage in their specific sport and in conventional and unconventional athletic movements. EM focuses on overall body movements that allow you to train like you play with resistance, so you as an athlete, can explode through the movements on the filed with no load. At the same time (and most importantly) this type of training fires and strengthens the small muscles and ligaments that assist the major muscle groups to prevent traumatic injury. Functional training does take knowledgeable trainers and supervision because of the intense and explosive nature of the movements, but the results in sports performance are dramatically better than other types of training.e Original Speed and Power Training Center in the Inland Empire. Our certified trainers have helped more than 6000 athletes to become more explosive, faster, stronger, quicker and more injury resistant..."
The information stated above, is true and correct. EM is a power, strength, agility program that helps athletes of all kinds (basketball, baseball, football) to prevent future injury, by conditioning and training their muscles properly. These type of places, (like EM), are sprouting up everywhere around the U.S. and have become a highly useful program for high school through minor league athletic programs. I highly suggest this type of program for all star cheerleading, since all star cheerleaders need CORE strengthening just like football, baseball and basketball players. They teach the "proper & perfect" way to condition. It really has helped in so many ways I couldn't list them all. We started this training with our senior levels 2 - 5 in June of 08, and it has reduced our injury rate, down about 75% from last season. Instead of breaks and/or serious injuries, we are dealing with very minor injuries this season. (Sore wrists, rolled ankles, etc.) And, we are wrapping athletes 90% less than last season. It has seemed to work well with our athletes, and the girls would tell you that the last half hour of their night is the hardest part of practice.
The Doctors chose our program because we were the first program that they called that brings in professional trainers to strengthen our athletes bodies.
But of course, they had to make the show look so dramatic!!! Hollywood!
