Individuals

Ive been seeing less and less people doing individuals each year. Why do you think this is? I thought with the new way that they split them into levels there would be more people getting involved, but i guess not. Is there anyone in your gym planing to do them this year?

We used to do them for years, as the girls started to get older it just became harder to get them in the gym and it is alot of extra time and work for the coaches as well.  I agree, many other people used to do them.  I miss them but not enough to push it in the gym.  =)

I take a nap through the individuals.  Cheerleading is a TEAM sport!

Ugh!  I agree.  Can't stand sitting through individual after individual.  It's a team sport.  I think they should do away with the individuals, duos, stunt groups, etc. and just focus on the team.

i think its great for athletes to be able to showcase their talent, especially if their gym doesent offer a team where they can show their full range of talent.

i hope they go away or only offer them on a different day from team comps.  pleeeeeeease no individuals lol

if they need to showcase their talent there is always local talent shows

Individuals are good for cheerleaders to push their own personal skills. Not a lot of sports allow "individuals". This is why cheerleading is a great sport.  It pushes the team, small groups (stunt category) and individuals. I think its great that these kids have the guts to go up infront of a bunch of people, by themselves and do their own personal talent.  It takes a lot. Cheers to them! clap.gif Keep it going.

Individuals are a thing of the past because individuals don't make enough money for gym owners or competition companies - not worth the effort!

You know it really is a tough call. Last year we did a dance solo. There were a lot of issues good and bad that I won't really go into. There were 6 girls from her team (out of 9) and they did solo's as well. I think in some ways it kind of tore their friendship and teamship apart. The team never really came together as a cohesive group.

It was a great learning experience, but on her last comp (2nd out of 17 girls, BTW) -- she was done and basically said, I really never want to solo again. "Too much stress."

I agree, that solo's/individuals should be conducted on another day. If the solos were first, they were exhausted (especially in dance where some of them have 2~ 3 dances to do being on elite teams). Similarly doing them afterwards, they were too tired to perform well for the solo. I remember our 1st comp, we got there at noon, performed team dances at 2, 4, and 5, did the awards, ran back, changed for solo, warmed up and then went on at 7 pm. She was as they say "a hot mess". She knew it, and it really lowered her confidence -- the exact opposite of what we were trying to accomplish.

It is a lot of extra work for all involved.  Our gym will totally hook the athlete up, but it is up to the parent to handle most of it.

i like the dance individuals because dance is a solo and a team sport. but the cheer ones are a waste of time. cheer has always been a team sport and you can't do any cool stunts with only one person.

The majority of the long time girls that did them took a break last year like Kiara and many others, I will be interested to see if they come back this  year with it!

Individuals is a thing of the past.  The ones I saw last year was boring, and really unnecessary.
