Nicole!!!  That is an AMAZING idea!!!!  I love it....I am so stealing....This year we are going to have a family BBQ at the community pool.  We are also having a Waterslides day.  Last year we went to a concert as a team, it was nice for the older kids.

Our team has had a team sleepover (complete with pillow fight against our coaches).  We have also had a pool party and a movie day.  We are planning our next movie day for July.  We meet at the food court at our mall, have lunch, and go see a flick.  We feel that team bonding is an important part of a successful season.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

your sleep over includes the coaches?  completely inappropriate and puts the coaches in a potentially liable situation...no need to have the coaches at a sleep over at all.  would you normally let your kid go to a friends house for a sleep over and be OK with adults of the opposite sex or same sex for that matter

spend the night with them - no you wouldn't so why do parents think its ok to do it because it's their "cheer coaches"?

i dont think she was implying this at all. you have no idea where the sleep over was. if it was at the gym, then yes...the coaches should have been there.

Haha...where do your kids get to spend the night?? If you have a girl then I gues in only single parent homes with a mom and no brothers...if a boy then vice versa. C'mon get real!!

And this is why we get the label of "psycho"!

To bring a positive to this....
Sounds like you have a great team. Team unity is a very important thing and your coaches sound like they are doing a VERY good job at this. I know last year when we went to a new gym they had a few team things in the beginning (coaches included....duh!!!) and it gave the team a chance to meet and bond. It was such a relief to the new family that this was done!!

Have a great year and continue to have fun with your team and coaches...its what will make the memories of your cheer family ones that will stick with you forever!

Our gym is planning a gym sleep over at the end of the month.  Yes the coaches will be there, along with a parent chaperones.  It's going to be a hear it's going to be a blast and I have no problems with my daughter attending.  I consider myself a very good parent and I find nothing inapropriate about it.  I only wish I like having fun too.biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I agree, you really should not rush to judgement!! Your response would lead me to believe you would not be happy with that scenario playing out in your childs life and that is perfectly ok if that is your decision but I have no problem allowing my daughter to spend the night at a sleepover with her team, her coaches and of course team parents or chaperones.  This is a wonderful opportunity to bond, build new friendships and have fun.  Not only would I but I have allowed my daughter to do it and I will again.  I trust my coaches, my daughter and certainly the adults who I allow to be around my daughter.  I dont believe this makes me a bad parent, I think this makes me a parent who is willing to allow his daughter to experience new things, have fun and enjoy life.

When you let your kids go to a sleep over, the parents are there... whats the difference.... I think folks are going over board with all the sex crap.  So lets just lock the kids in the closet, because if they come out they may not survive life!

If you trust your coach and your children have a great relationship with you, why are you worried???

I realize that things have changed, but when we were kids we did overnight sleepovers, Trick or Treating, ate junk food, watched tv, watched spooky movies, rode our bikes all over town, and we survived to tell about it.  I scares me to think we are raising kids to be afraid of everything now a days.  Yes you teach them to be safe, and as parents it's our job to protect them.  But it just seems now a days it's taken to the extreme.  Yes bad things happen, but you can miss out on a lot of good things living your life afraid.
