i think its good that not everyone merges... if you can have successful teams and pay your bills why merge... especially when some of these teams have been around soooo long its sad to see them go... pace has been around since the early 90s and Titan has been around since 99 i dont really know numbers on the rest but i think its good to have more competition
I agree, I think each gym gives a "different option"/ experience. It allows us cheer moms to find the program that best fits our daughter and family instead of putting up with "the only one in town". All the gyms are good in their own way.
true, but I feel bad for the girls who get put on lower level teams because they age out.. for example if a girl is 15 and she has to be on a sr. 2 even though she has level 3 skills. merging just ups the numbers and lets team placement be more accurate.
The problem I have with gym mergers is that in some cities if two major gyms merge you are taking choice away from parents and athletes. If I wanted my daughter to cheer for the other program in town....I would take her there. While I understand the desire to create "mega" gyms, I think competition is good and I think it forces teams to work harder if there is a gym across town....it keeps everyone on their toes! I know the "mega" gym thing is the new "thing" but I'm not quite sure it is good for the sport.
I think mega gyms are ok as long as not all small gyms merge. The more families commit to their small-er gyms and their goals the LARGER the talent pool will be at the small gym. I agree, we have to keep our options available. Otherwise, the only place to go for competition will be out of town/state...and I know we don't want more traveling do we?

What is considered to be a "Mega-Gym"? Name like 5 in California - do we have any?

It's not the size that makes them a MEGA GYM, It's the number of WINS
ah your right my mistake -- chino is not in orange county. I always get chino and placentia (which is in Orange county) confused. Not a real expert on those citys along the 91 on the way to riverside....

Not really a mega gym is a gym with lots of athletes period. Gyms like Cheer Athletics, Cheer Extreme and World Cup would fall in this category. Only gyms in California that fall under that category are California All Stars and Cheer Force. Maybe So Cal, Power, and a couple others are close but thats about it.

actually the only gyms that woud fall into this category are generally gyms with ten or more teams. so it would be california allstars and scv. while scv isnt a "powerhouse" just yet they have 13 teams. the are the second largest gym in the state. cheer athletics has about 18 teams cheer extreme has 34-38 teams and world cup has i think 26. comparing gyms here in california to them is sill. Looking at tose numbers makes california the only mega gym in the state. cheerforce so cal oc are all large gyms but not mega gyms.

Cali has 24 teams between 3 locations but they are still one huge family. I just want to make sure people understand that all 24 teams are not out of one location. I think what we may find happening after this season is that kids with level 5 skills who couldn't compete on Cali's level 5 team, due to lack of room on level 5 teams, may look consider returning to smaller/local gyms to be able to compete their skills on the appropriate team. That wouldn't be bad for CA, since their teams will be stacked to begin with. But it will be great for the dilemma that many smaller gyms are facing at this very moment. Perhaps the whole competition dilemma , or lack thereof, may only be limited to this season (I am not speaking of economy related issues - I'm speaking of the "mega gym" vs small gym issue) Not saying smaller gyms are "worried" per say, especially since it only takes one team to get that WIN. Just giving some positive input.
SCV with 260 kids! Wow! Amazing younger team gym. They are the best. Not from there, but I have so much respect for the way they pull those babies together. That's at one location!
