Parents your vote is requested

Parents we want to hear from you.
Would you leave your current gym if your daughter was promised another position (flyer etc) or a higher level team?
Explain why you selected yes or no.

I would have to say it depends! And the reason being as long as my daughter was happy at her gym then probaly not.  As a parent it is important to teach our children loyalty and the process of earning a posisition on a team.  It is like a job, you get a raise if you put the time and effort and work ethics into something. You get promoted etc..  In the same token you dont stay at a job that doesn't offer you the oppurtunity to advance or get ahead if you deserve it.  But then you may be happy with your posisition.

That goes for cheer as well. You have to earn your spot whatever it is.  Work hard and help build the team as a whole. cheer is not an individual sport. if you are happy with your gym and its only you want to fly, then you may leave your gym to go fly and everything else will be a mess.

Depends, if he/she has the skills needed for that position or higher level team.  Most parents are not realistic about their children's talent.

If I was promised the position/higher level prior to actual tryouts, let play hypothetical situation cause I am not sure what the actual situation is but:

Hypothetical:  He/She is borderline 4/5, was told at the end of season based on talent pool within the gym that there was a chance on them obtaining the spot/higher level he or she desired.

Then they have tryouts and a slew of talent comes walking in and there are girls/guys that have true level 5 skills, well I would think as a coach and a business owner, I would take those level 5 skills and recind on that child.

Now in business, it is all in the way a coach/owner spins the conversation to get the promissed child/parent to understand your decision.  Stroke the ego coach/owner but at the same time parent please realize your childs actual abilities.

So in a nut shell, if I was realistic about my childs abilities and others around me, no I wouldn't leave.  But if my child truly has the skills to fullfill the requirement of what was promised, then yes I would leave the gym.  But then again, what is your alternative?  Does the gym have the skill, coaching style and what not that you might be looking for.

No, emphatically no! Your question is too ambitious to answer in detail however. But in every case I think of both as a parent and a coach I would say no.

No.  If someone offered the position, I am assuming they approached me.  So, no.

If we went to another gym because we were interested in checking it out for whatever reason and THEN were offered a position, I would only consider it if the rest of the 'package' felt right.

I don't really care what position or placement my daughter is offered.  I guess I can say that because her present coach I think does an excellent job of placing the kids on teams and routines, and I don't think it is any of my business to get involved with it.  Maybe I would feel different if I were not in that situation.
I am not a cheer coach!  And cheerleading is a team sport...not a solo effort.

You are laughing but sadly that does happen in isolated spots around the country. That is part of what fuels the small gym vs large gym drama in many states. Smaller, unknown gym trains kids, gets them to know motions, positions, tumbling, etc. and a larger well known gym offers them a partial or free ride to switch gyms in effect making the small gym a feeder gym for the large gym.

Any gym in the country could pick up the tab for any of my children and I still would not switch. But then again they are not paying like that for BHS series yet...rofl. Or are they?evileye....rofl!

confused So, they left gym A went to new gym B for one year, THEN at the end of that year left gym B and took with them 9 girls BACK to gym A....is that right? and who was paid?  Hmmmm..........that's just wrong and maybe it's better off those people are gone!

I would have to say "no". It would take a lot for us to leave the gym we are at. In my opinion, there is more to cheer than a team level or a position (flyer/base). It is SOOOO important to find the right fit for your child and once you do, that is more valuable than gold!

It's happened and no we didn't leave.
I gave the decision to my daughter and believe me, I was tempted to tell her to do it, she loves her cheer friends, and loves her gym. I was very happy with her decision and they had a wonderful season.
Ultimately it will always be her decision and if she can't make the "elite" on the squad she's on, that only challenges her more to do better, not run and get something handed to her.

If I was the gym owner, I would be asking what I could do better........if I had a small gym doing my best, maybe did not win every comp and they went to gym A becasue they win all the time...there is NOTHING you can do....  If that is more important to those familys then you are better off.
